I missed the first half but I'm told I didn't miss much of a spectacle. 1 - 0.

Second half Abbey sat back happy for Town to dominate because they knew we would not score on their pudding of a pitch.

2nd goal was straight in from a corner. Chopper!

Is this the first season the ESL was won by Christmas

Good Luck to Abbey next season in the Intermediate league. Ground nowhere near ready for Grade E let alone grade D. Abbey won the league - Certainly the most negative team I've seen this season! Town 80% of the game in the second half but not good enough in front of goal!

Abbey had two shots and scored both times!

As for the ref poor isn't an adequate word to describe what I saw. Definite penalty refused and seemed to only blow up when we had the ball and an Abbey player would lay down for a rest. Bless

Judging by this post, you missed the second half as well (!) and you obviously don't know about the ground criteria. As I have said elsewhere sort yourselves out before slagging off other clubs.

If we were negative today then GREAT!

Our lads had a job to do and they did it well. I would settle for being negative AND WINNING every match until the end of the season 2-0... as I'm sure you would.

The 2nd goal was actually from a free-kick a couple of yards from the corner flag and, yes, it went straight in at the far post. Harry Elmes.

Your description of the ref is not fair at all... it seemed to me that YOU were getting all the favourable decissions!

Anyway boys, 1st half of the season nearly over... keep up the good work for the 2nd half and you will be worthy champions!

Dell.

I don't begrudge Abbey the win at all. Your game was better suited to the (awful) pitch and you adapted to the conditions slightly more intelligently.

But if you seriously think that abbey didn't get most of the faviourable discisions then i can only question your sanity or your eyesight.Stone wall penalty/missing Abbey No5 boot the ball over the goal for a corner/stopping the game with Town in possesion 5 times in the second half when Abbey players went down injured. There were plenty of more incidents like that as well.

Yes Abbey only had two shots on goal and scored with both. Yes, Town had most of the second half. Saying that, i thought a draw would have been a fair result, because i felt both teams failed to perform on the day.

Thanks! I can honestly say that I did not see anything that looked like a penalty - although I heard the screams - as a lot of the play was at the opposite end of the ground to where I was standing and yes, I do need some new glasses! (They may have been a tad rose tinted today!)

Sanity ? That's a different issue entirely!

The ref was absolutely awful in the second half. First half, I reckon he was about average for ESL. However, regardless of the refereeing, we wouldn't have scored if the match went on until 7pm. For whatever reason, we couldn't score today. The determination was there, but a few of the players had a bit of a nightmare match and Abbey got the ball where it counted most -the back of the net.

A few things I'd like to say about various supporters....

A massive thank you to the Abbey lady who helped me get the pram into the ground by looking after my youngest for a couple of minutes.

Another big thanks to all those who helped me get the pram round the ground.

Whoever the guy was who spat at the ref, I hope you either grow up or you never go to a Town game again.

And there was one Town fan who told me as I was leaving that he was phoning his cousin who lived in Abbey. Apparently he was going to come down with some friends to teach the WAbbey supporters a lesson. Again, either grow up or stop going to Town games.

Apparently he's an english teacher - have you seen some of the Abbey lads' grammar?!

I wasn't there, but I've been told that the result was a combination of poor ETFC finishing and the ref being a 'homer'. My spies tell me that if Abbey play as they did today for the rest of the season then they will find themselves getting turned over on a regular basis. We shall see.

I think Abbey would struggle in many ways if they went up next season, but good luck if they are able to.

I saw this game as being easier than next week's against EFC. Suddenly the trip to Ware isn't quite so tempting.

JC can't seem to get us over the final hurdle, still, I can't quite hear the fat lady yet.

As its the league we have the chance later in the season to make it up and wipe this result out,so lets put it down to experience and start again.

I know the playing surface has been mentioned before. And i must say i was appauled by the condition of the pitch. It was dissapointing that either side should have to compete in such a big game on that sort of pitch.

Heavy/sticky/bobbly/uneven.It's the worst i've ever seen at the Abbey. I watched the Abbey v Barkingside game their a few months ago and i can't remember it being that poor.

Town always struggle on bad passing surfaces. As our home form for the last 3 years proved until this, until this season when we sorted the playing surface out. We must adapt better to these challenges. If short passing and trying to put you foot on the ball is not working,we must be more flexible in changing stratery to match the conditions.

Abbey played like a good sunday league team. (no disrespect meant). They cleared the ball out of the danger areas quickly and tried to gain yardage as economically as possible, normally speading wide with long balls.(thus nullifiying the surface). Some of Town's players still think they are playing on Ryman premier surfaces. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

From this weeks "Centre Spot"

Waltham Abbey posted their intent on a first League Championship with a 2-0 win over second place Enfield Town at Capershotts in front of a club record 338 attendance for an ESL match but the visitors' League Record of Away games, although now ended, should remain intact for a good number of years. Billy Holland put the home side ahead after 33 mins and a second, by Harry Elmes curling a corner in with about the last kick of the match put the Abbotts very much in the driving seat for a League treble as Xmas approaches. At least Enfield Town can now look forward as our only representatives in the F A Vase to a Sunday lunchtime match with Ryman 2 leaders, Enfield on the 12th, and we wish them well.

BTW

(1) Harry's goal was from a free kick near the corner flag.

(2) ENFIELD look to be in good form at the mo... they won again today (yesterday!) 6-3. :-)

Anyway, what's your excuse for being up at this time of the morning? I've just had sex and it always makes me hungry, so I thought I would look in and enjoy the fun!
