New road scheme

Recommended Posts

Alistair Darling has announced a new Sittingbourne Northern bypass - linking Eurolik (Sittingbournes Astro stadium and the A249. £29 million is being funded for it.

Might this tempt the Scalley to move in that direction - basic stadium already built - with plenty of scope to add. Sittingbourne MAY welcome such a move- as it would bring cash into the area, and the road infrastructure would coincide with the Gills planned move away from Preistfield.

The link is here.

Could it be that Mr. Scally was thinking of building a Stadium in a new developement zone, so that later on he could declare the club insolvent and then sell the land for x number of times more than they paid for it???......That has never happened before...has it?

If he moved into Siitingbourne he wouldn't be able to do that!

Why would Scally want to move to Gravesend now everything is set up for him in Sittingbourne. The only thing different that he will get in Gravesend is opposition.

My worry is that he wants to come here because he knows too well that the area is on the up with all the cash going into the Thames Gateway development. He wants to be in a dynamically expanding area with a growing fanbase, which will easily dwarf what the Medway Towns has to offer.

Pinch it from us in other words & effectively remove their club from the majority of established Gills fans. If Charlton (or indeed Gillingham in their current location) steal our potentially big new fanbase through better marketing than us, well fair enough. But to do it by muscling into our backyard & with our council's blessing just does my head in. We would wither away with a League club only minutes away. If our councillors allow this, they want shooting.

Cheers for that mate. Did you go to the meeting? Why would Scally want to move to Gravesend now everything is set up for him in Sittingbourne. The only thing different that he will get in Gravesend is opposition.

Er, what about Sittingbourne fans?

Admittedly, they are relatively few in number these days, but we shouldn't just hope our problems are palmed off onto another Kent non-league side. The bottom line is that Gillingham shouldn't leave their town at all.
