New Manager

A Non E Mouse

Recommended Posts

OK - this is probably one of those for tomorrow, when your bored at work.

Hypethetically - Jeff quits and takes his money with him (This is nothing to do with unfounded rumours pls. read on) and Glenn decides to hang up his boots and go into early retirement.

Who do you think would do a good management job at our underdog club with a limited budget.

Lets keep it simple - current non league managers - or players only and reasons if possible.

I'll kick off with Colin McBride of Thurrock (prev. Purfleet). Not proven at National Conference level but consistently puts a challenging side together (currently 4th in Conf South)with little or no budget.

Any others.................?

Gary Hill. Did miracles at Daggers and I can see him pulling Hornchurch through the mire despite their financial problems.

If not him then Paul Fairclough at Barnet although I doubt he'll be interested.

Yep - it appears that a load of B****s were written about Jeff packing it all up, and yes I think we all appreciate he has been and will continue to be a great manager for CIFC.

The original question was hyperthetical - who do you think would make a great manger of CIFC (current non-league managers or players only and obviously not Glenn either) ? So who do ya reckon it-is-this-year........

Have a look at how teams play and attempt to keep the CIfC tradition in place

I.E. Basingstoke-Boggy Regis from CS and you will have seen teams play the way you would like CIFC to continue

Truth to tell its all B******s but interesting food for thought

Thats all this thread was ever meant to be - some people are getting the wrong end of the stick. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Interesting point though Pabird so I'll try again from a different angle.......

Whoever manages Canvey (And no Jeff ain't running for the door just yet)- would you compromise good passing, attacking football for big physical players who play hoofball if it meant suffering a season with a better chance of promotion?

that's the debate, the good passing attacking football can beat conference sides, we have proved that on many an occasion, but can it be played week in week out.

I think we must. for the last few seasons I have brought people down to the lane with the promise that they will get to see a good game of football. and 9 times out of 10 it was (even when we lost it was usually a good game). you cant promise people that now. I understand that we are adapting to a new league, but the fans need to be stimulated. they need to want to cheer on their team and for that we need slick exciting football. it will also help make new people that come through the gates come back for another game.

if this can be done with the side we have then great if not we will have to invest.

our ultimate goal has to be to climb the league, if we aren't going to do that I would rather get relegated and watch some good football again

I agree. Hereford showed us with their pace and Barnet are a very good footballing side and it shows with their lead at the top.

Teams who play long ball and make it untidy might get results but are not consistent, i.e, Dagenham, Northwich. (No disrespect to these teams, well none to Northwich anyway, but i only remember these two coz of highlights i've seen on www.conferencetv.com. I cant remember anyone else coz i haven't seen any other teams play since becoming a Northerner!)

I dont think we should be dragged into other team's style of play just to survive in the Conference.

Manager: Someone like Paul Fairclough, Graham Turner or Gary Johnson.

don't get me wrong I want to see canvey succeed as much as the next man (as long as they are a canvey fan) but it shouldn't be at the price of entertaining football. the moment we resort to the dull hoof form the back tactics and sitting behind the ball the team stop being the canvey we have grown to love and become like pretty much every other team in the league that has been stuck there for years and years.

I understand that the all out attack play we used to play isn't possible at the moment with the team we have and the sides we are against but we should never stop aspiring to play it. that is what will get us promoted.
