Accrington

A Non E Mouse

Recommended Posts

Most of Saturday isn't fresh in my mind now - then again there wasn't a lot to remember.

Change in the starting line up again with Chenners and Mcghee and Keeling starting the game this time. Midgely seemed to have been given the forwards role.

The first twenty minutes or so was pretty uneventful and Accrington looked extremely poor and not a side who have been in the top half of the division and just outside a play off place.

As the game went on and it approached half time I felt strongly that this was a game where Canvey could certainly obtain a point - possibly an outside win. Only chance of the half for the Gulls that I remember was a Keeling shot that went over the goal and over the wall into the car park beyond.

Half time and at this point I thought Accrington was so poor that surely their manager must be having words about their lack lustre performance. Sure enough the second half started with a little more urgency from Accrington and within a couple of minutes, after a saved/blocked shot the rebound was converted. Accrington never really went up a gear but I just felt we were not going to score - we just didn't have anything up front.

Mcghee seemed pretty solid in his first start for some time. Chenners seemed OK after his injury, but with the occassional pass going astray.

Duffers was subbed due to injury after a nasty tackle. Hope it isn't to bad - he was playing OK up to that point. JK came on. Later there were two further subs with Keeling and Minton going off and Ollie and Greggors coming on. Bit strange because Keeling and Minton were still plugging away - and if anyone was going to do anything, you felt it was going to be one of these two.

Midgely worked hard up front in a more central role, but it just didn't run for him and at times he looked a little bit to light weight when taking on the Accy defence. Williams was a big plus point again - kept going and kept it simple with some nice quick one touch passes that didn't play people into trouble.

Only three points off 19th place now - we have had a few harder games, and with the exception of Shots and Halifax we have some crucial games coming up in the next month or so that we need to get results from including Burton, Daggers, Farnboro and Tamworth.

The thing that stood out most yesterday was the lack of a proficient forward - we are really missing Lee and Junior.
