Thurrock on monday

michael

Recommended Posts

Even though it does not appear as a fixture on official site, it appears we are playing Thurrock in the National Conference cup on monday night.

Does anybody care.

Funnily enough i do, as it is the only cup we remain in, and a chance to progress against conference national club would be good imo.

It only does not matter to those teams knocked out, and once the conference cubs come in, the profile of the competition could very well increase.

Any score and team selection predictions?

Wonder whether Nedjet will play ?

[color:"blue"] Can't help but feel you're the only one interested in this Cup Michael.

Don't think Nej will play, unless Peter Trego has other commitments - we did play a full first team against Welling in the earlier round & will probably do so again.

Can't help but think you're over optimistic about Conference National sides raising the profile of the competition - no-one there is interested in it either, so they'll probably fill their teams with fringe & youth players(a'la Arsenal in League Cup).

The Cup was only revived as a sweetner for waiving Unibond and Ryman League sides who weren't sure of joining the Conference North & South respectively, and unless it gets a new sponsor next season will probably die a death again.

Youre probably right, but once it gets to last 8, think those left in may get mildly excited.

Lets face it, most clubs are out of trophy,FaCup by mid January; so its something to keep the players going midweek.

Otherwise, theres only next season (and the Ashes of course) to start thinking about.

Glad you put a preview on coffin end site just the same

I for one can't get over excited about this cup or any other at the moment. Can the club afford to be in it at this time(at least we have been drawn away again). Has the money come through from the developers/new directors or are the ever presents still having to foot the bill?. How much is the prize fund compared to wage bill?. Despite this i wish the boys well, and hope we do'nt get anymore injuries befor saterday. Hope to see you all at Homelands on saterday. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bow.gif" alt="" />

Cant believe there is ONE "gate" supporter who dosent want us to win ANY trophy, any championship. True supporters want a win everytime regardless of the competition. We would be liars if we lost in this competiton then said "it was only a micky mouse cup anyway". We all should be hoping for wins,3 points in whatever we play, with no excuses should we fail.

Agree with you Cookie(although must admit i feel same way about the KSC)

I'm still really pi...d off about Trophy defeat-£4k prize money not too be sniffed at.

Too late now.

I'm only guessing but there may be £500 prize money on tonights game and maybe £1000 by next round.Who can tell.

Then maybe the prestige of a semi/final match in a decent venue a few games later.

I'm hoping for a win tonight anyway; but there again will i be saying that if the win came at the price of a sending off and couple of nasty injuries.

Wonder if Darren wil be playing and what happened to him on saturday

I take your point about the injuries but again it should be a squad thing and if injuries occur then we should have the players in the squad to be able to step in and maintain a good team performance.I know it dosent always work out that way but with whatever team we put out I would be looking for a victory. In whatever competition.

Any score yet anybody?

Sorry Gents, but getting hold of info on this competition is pretty hard. When I do get hold of some info on the result and team I will post it on the match reports section and update the corresponding stats.
