Who makes these rules?

On entering the ground today, armed with no less then a plastic drinks bottle I was approached by a steward who to my amazement informed me that I could not enter the terraced area of the ground. Why I asked?

The upshot of it was that plastic bottles are permitted but their lids are not for fear the crowd may throw them at players. As I pointed out, whats to stop me from throwing the plastic bottle then?

In fairness to the Steward he was very good natured about it and was only enforcing the rules but if the Club is going to apply this "hard and fast" rule then surely all coinage needs to be confiscated from one's person, along with other lethal items such as the packet of maltesers I was carrying and the considerably more dangerous banana!

Still it gave me a laugh . . .

i know, its a total joke. recent concert i went to took the lid off my bottle of water. great, had to drink it all at once.If i wanted to throw something, there is like you say, coins. Then there are things such as lighters and cans of coke (that they sell at the van thing). And of course the chips and burgers that are on sale. Not forgetting gnfc products such as rulers, pens, etc all available from the club shop.

Think of the paper cuts a programme could give a player......ouchie!

This is something that I have often wondered about. But the long and short of it is that the head of the bottle is a lot harder when thrown if the lid is in place. I gave my lid to a steward before I bought my programme and he told me well done.

Also are we allowed to smoke on the terraces? At Chelsea this is the second season where smoking has been banned in all areas of the stadium (Thanks again to Ken Bates), why don't the fleet ban smoking? Is it because they know that a lot of our fans smoke and therefore can't risk losing fans due to not allowing smoking?

In fairness to the club, I don't think it is them that sets the rules. I believe that the ground is now officially a designated football stadium and is subject to all sorts of rules and regulations. There's a page in the programme listing Ground Regulations, which makes reference to objects that are banned from being taken into the ground ( which includes flags and banners !!)as they maybe used as weapons. Also, The Conference itself has a set of rules to be adhered to.

Cheers,

You obviously don't get much sleep?

You'll sleep easy tonight.

Wrong - the bottle is lot harder upon contact with the contents still inside (or water or even urine, for that matter!). With the lid off, if the bottle was thrown the contents would start to fly out of the bottle and that action would also slow the bottle down.

Yes so shut up.

Shut up about Chelsea! Everything is always compared to Chelsea!! We are not Chelsea, we are Gravesend & Northfleet!!!

We're in an open space so why should they?

I'm giving up so I don't really care but the anti-smoking brigade really do my head in.

Whinge whinge whinge.....

I agree the mentioning of Chelsea is annoying, but I applaud Harry for saying thay are his 2nd team. I bet he wasn't saying that a year or so ago.

People like Harry are the ones we need to convert, theres loads out there.

Okay I won't mention Chelsea anymore or when I do it will be on rare occasions. But then just a few weeks ago I was blasted for saying I was fed up about reading about Hornchurch. Now I'm just confussed?

Chelsea isn't non-league. Hornchurch is.
We don't play Chelsea. We had just played Hornchurch in the cup.
Hornchurch lost their financial backers. We ended up with a couple of their players who we wouldn't have had otherwise.

You see the difference?

Bear in mind that even the novelty of posting about Hornchurch had even wore off until you mentioned it again.

Now unless you get one of their reserve strikers on loan for The Fleet, please stop going on about Chelsea! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

There's a good chap.....

Talking about 'Gold Tops' a rattling in their crates... 'The Stones' are putting foundations in place.
