Wolking game

Recommended Posts

Not a full blown smiley icon, but a generally happy one. The defence looked a lot more formidable today, with Poppy and Macca (2) looking very assured and solid. That looks like a partnership that will only get better the longer they play together.

Wasn't it nice to see Pinns, Moussa and Jukebox running past defenders and getting the final pass into the box - all we need is a Steve Portway on the end of it!!!

Well deserved draw, I reckon, maybe even a little bit unlucky not to get 3points. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I enjoyed the game, mind you I do get the jitters as the ball heads for Wilco. Again he appeared to be hesitant.

One of Wokings forwards was pacy, every time the ball was punted upfield by Wokings shot stopper, he outpaced both the defenders. We only have little legs Skins able to keep up with this guy.

Overall I am of the opinion that we should have stuffed them, but there again I'm biased.

Message to AF. Please don't win Manager of the Month again. It's Jinxed.

Thought it was quite even today, draw was probably fair although we need that kind of poacher-style striker without a doubt. Pinns played well, but he does that outside the box, and Roy was again a little quiet.

McCarthy looked very composed, impressive performance. Not sure if Popovic still needs to adjust to the pace, or whether Richards was lightning quick, but other than that seemed assured. And nice to see a keeper who's kicking rivalled Wilko's!

Whitebucket now has a match report up.

Good performance, lacking that final finish though. I agree about Pinno, he's more of a forward rather than striker and therefore the role of putting the ball past the keeper needs to be claimed by Essandoh a bit more. He tried hard today though and was unlucky. Defence looked much more solid. McCarthy was very reasurred I thought, and Popovic made some good tackles. Needs to maybe work on his passing and distribution though rather than just punting it out every time. Well done lads, I'm sure we'll get a win soon!

Too many high balls into the box. The Woking giant was hardly troubled. Running with the ball from mid field was missing. Defence was troubled by Woking forwards but generally held together. A draw was a fair result. Both sides impressed today.

Thought Drury played well today didn't give the ball away to often and didn't try to take on the extra man instead of shooting or passing. I think we could be missing two players.

First off we need a goal scorer someone thats willing to be our top scorer, a fox in the box, a twenty goals a seaon man. That cross in the second half that Roy thought the Keeper or Defender would get on the end of and therefore didn't go for it himself we need someone that will throw themsleves at that.

Also as I said last week I haven't been watching The Fleet for very long so could someone tell me who is our Midfiled general (Roy Keane, Patrick Viera or Frank Lampard) We need someone to win those lose balls in midfield and to stop the flow. When the balls in the air who do we have to put his foot on it and bring it down?

Agree with Whitebucket - draw was a fair result. Both Popovic and McCarthy put in good performances but there were a few too many long balls for my liking. Still its a point against another full-time team that sees us move into 10th place.

Why no Surey? Since his England debut he doesn't seem to be able to make the starting XI.

I agree with many of the sentiments expressed already: a draw was certainly a fair result. Woking equipped themselves fairly well in defence but, similar to us, failed to put away many of the best chances up front. Indeed, had their defender not gifted us a penalty by barging Drury when he was going basically nowhere, it might have been a different story. Fleet fans may feel hard done by when Roy appeared to be elbowed in the face in the box, but Woking had an equally good penalty shout after Skinner pole-axed one of their forwards in the area in the second half.

Tend to agree with others that defence seemed much improved today, however, I felt McCarthy was a little slow when faced with Woking's pacey strike force...

I was quite surprised by Andy's decision to start with Moussa today and, it has to be said, although he put in the effort to the final whistle, he seemed a little tired throughout the second half. As for the rest of our midfield, Drury put in a special performance once more - he seems to be back on form recently - and Macca and Saunders were strong in the middle. Perhaps Fordy thinks two proper wingers complement our style of play better than shoving on Surey as an extra centre mid, but still I think it is a little odd that he's been left out of both games since his appearance for England...

Poor attendance today, must be nearing Christmas...

Scarborough next week will be a toughy, so I think that Farnborough at home is our next crucial, must-win game. That should be a cracker and I'm really annoyed I'll miss it 'cos of a uni interview. Grr

My first reaction to their penalty claim was that it was shoulder to shoulder and it was a good call from the ref - one of the few he made. Mind you, I was at the other end, so i stand to be corrected by video evidence.

How did the ref come up with only 3 minutes added time as well?? Their guy, Jackson, was treated for that long, let alone a couple of other injuries during the second half, and the endless timewasting by the Woking keeper. Should surely have been nearer 8 or 9 minutes of added time.

Well, in my view, Skinner's challenge was very similar in force to the one on Jukebox for the penalty. Just as well it wasn't given from our perspective, though, since I couldn't really see us scoring a second equaliser.

Yet again (and we seem to say this after every match) we had a dominant spell of play just after half-time, but didn't make it count, and the opposition scored with pretty much their first opening of the half. However, most of us seem to agree that a draw was fair, and I'll add my name to the list - particularly given that they struck the post twice, with Selley's 2nd half effort being particularly impressive.
