Chelmsford 0 Slough 1

Not a bad game. You had most of the possession throughout the match but without really looking threatening up front. Lacking a good goalscorer, perhaps? Wouldn't fault the effort from our lads, we had five teenagers on the pitch today, but apart from a couple of half chances in the first half we never looked liked scoring. In fact neither goalkeeper had a lot to do.

Best of luck in the next round and v. Yeading in the FAC.

A fantastic game that was end to end all the way through. I think we showed greater attacking intentions although their defence was extremely well organised and didn't really give us any chances.

Their keeper made three good saves in the second half, one of which was as good as any you'll see all season - a brilliant parry to his left from a Glen Harris rifled shot.

The goal came just when it looked like we'd have to settle for a replay. Harris had a dig from distance which the keeper could only push onto the bar. As the ball rebounded there was a scramble for the ball with Smurph2 managing to prod the ball over the line to spark mass celebrations, as much out of relief that we didn't have to replay prior to the Yeading game.

Several candidates for man of the match for me including, Smurph1, Carbon and Harris but I thought Seedal was brilliant today and outshone Hodgey by a mile.

For Dover programme, hope you all agree

Match Report Chelmsford 0-1 Slough Town FA Trophy

Essex has, in recent times, seemed to be the Rebels nemesis; this was proved recently when we were convincingly beaten 3-0 by Chelmsford earlier this season (With ex Rebel Gary Cross netting twice.) Hopes were, therefore, not high as we arrived and phrases such as “Well at least we are still in the FA Cup, whatever happens” were soon being muttered. Within minutes we were treated to a fast flowing game with goals flying in and some exquisite skills on display; however this was just us Slough fans having a kick about on the green next to the car park! We arrived at the ground muddied and breathing heavily to be told the line-ups, Matt Murphy replacing Darron Wilkinson and Matt Seedel in for Ryan Spencer. The full line up was Allaway, Carbon, Murphy (Mi), Daly, Saulsbury, Haddow, Murphy (ma), Harris, Hodges, Seedel and Metcalfe.

Slough started the better of the two teams and the first real attack was as early as the 2nd minute Alex Haddow whipped in a cross and Chelmsford’s Ben Crew scrambled it wide (Nearly putting it in his own goal!) Slough just edged Chelmsford during the first half in what was an evenly matched contest. Murphy(Matt), Carbon and Seedel all had shots just sneak wide, whilst at the other end Shaun Allaway made a great point blank save. We went to the refreshments area, confident and very relieved that at least ‘It won’t be as bad as last time’.

After half time entertainment of Matty Miller and Danny Steer trying to kill the Slough fans behind the goal with their display of “Powerful accurate shooting” We had a worrying sight, Alex Haddow (Who had been on the receiving end of a few nasty tackles) seemed to come out ready for the 2nd half and then discovered he was too injured to start the half (Sub 45 mins Haddow off, Steer on) The second half started in a similar vain to the first with Slough having the lion’s share of possession, again the first real chance feel to a Slough player; Matt Seedel won the ball from an opposing defender but the resulting shot was too close to the keeper to trouble him. The game seemed to deteriorate during the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half with neither team seeming to be able to string more than a few passes together. Danny Steer and Josias were attacking well down the wings and Glen Harris was unlucky not to force an own goal as his cross-shot, after some neat footwork, nearly flew in off an unlucky defender. The final 20 minutes were totally dominated by Slough, with Harris having another shot well saved, Ian Hodge being shut out by the ‘keeper twice and Matt Murphy just heading over. Just as talk of replays was being bandied round behind Paul Nicholl's goal, Glen Harris cut inside the 18 yard box and unleashed a shot that the keeper could only parry onto the crossbar and as it hit the ground Matt Murphy was on hand to steer it in from an awkward angle (88th Minute!) Madness ensued from behind the goal, and Slough easily held on to clinch another well-deserved cup win. Man of the Match: James Saulsbury.

Useful having a thorough report so early, Marcus, Thanks.

(I still don't know how you lot do it - I have enough trouble keeping up with what's going on on the pitch!)

You ask 'hope you all agree'...

...may I suggest using 'vein' instead of 'vain' and 'fell' instead of 'feel'?

(Subtle alteration to the meaning of the sentences concerned.)

Any other amendments I leave to Glen!

BTW - did I hear you were an English teacher? (sorry, I mean a teacher of English)

MOM difficult for me to judge.... whilst saulsbury was brilliant it seems to me he has been brilliant nearly very game this season...

being a huge haddow fan now i'd have to say he gave 110% again on the wing, providing that extra pass which we often needed in order to get out of our own half, but i'd feel bad giving him the award since he only played half a game.... aving said that i was nicely surprised by his sub danny steer, who actually battled like hell today...

i'd agree with dom about hodgie, i can only presume he was savng himself for next week?

Josie wasn't as reliable as i've seen him before, seedal worked really hard again and metcalfe.. well he was metcalfe.

i dunno i'd be really hard pushed... suppose i'll have to go with saulsbury
