Midfield

I've been looking at all these posts moaning about our midfield, ok, at the moment, its not to great, but when Oates and Green are back, we'll have what I believe to be on of the best midfields in the league, with Benevides, Keister, Gradley and Clarke to choose from. Which of these players would you leave out now? And, seeing as we only have 3 in the midfield, who would you replace with a new signing? The midfield just looks bad, because we are using them as wing backs.

I think i have been one of those highlighting the midfield.

Personally i do not see it as moaning or even constructive criticism; but purely that compared to the enormous strides made to get a decent attack, and defence(on paper at least),we do not seem to have done much to strengthen midfield.

Agree that Benevides, JK Gradley and Ac are all capable and above average when on form, but weaknesses in the form of inconsistency ,red mist attacks/suspension/age ;lack of fitness, loss of form, more suspensions, more injuries apply and we do need more quality in this area if we are really going to get a top 8/5 position.

We need to hold the ball up to take pressure off defence

We all see things different but to my mind, Oates and Green should be foremost instructed to concentrate on defensive duties-not try and be wing backs which only works when you have world class ability-not at this level.

Keep it simple.

imo benevides is not a midfielder but an out and out winger this is not a critisism cos what ive seen in this division a good winger is a great asset as displayed by 2 or 3 teams this year agains us

This is all very true, but, saying we have 4 usually quality midfielders, i dont think we need to bring in a replacement midfielder, but possibly a talented youngster, to work as back up for now when a player is in bad form/baned/injured, and then as the older midfielders leave, he can replace them.

Have to say that despite the result and fact that i feel we are lacking in midfield, even without Jk ,the midfield played well today-best i have seen this season.

Clarke had good second half in particular-back to his best

Gradley-good as ever

Benevides-playing in a more central role had a very good game-no real errors that usually mar his game, and today gave a proper all round midfielders performance complementing both defence and attack.First class.

Maybe i was wrong about the midfield.

Difficult selection problem for CK next week with Keister back unless he plays 4 in midfield

I read that Gravesend have loaned reserve midfielder Tom Davis to St Albans.

Pity CK did not get him, but hopefully CK will get someone better.

We do need that extra midfield player-as soon as Clarke, JK or Gradley and possibly Benevides are injured/ suspended we are in the mire

i just hope the stadium gets the go ahead and quickly so CK can buy the new players he is intrested in, and hopefuly then we wouln't have so many defencive/midfield problems when we get injurys. this isn't a critisim of the team any any way but just seeing away for the team to move up the table.
