[Unrecognized Genius]

In his new role as the supporters' voice in The Reporter, Ed Whitebucket Miller predicts that our exotically named new centre back will become something mind blowingly original like "Pops" out on the park.

 

I think he's probably spot on. However, amongst us supporters surely he can be more inventively named, just as Mr Jukebox Drury has been. One poster has already referred to him as Popeye & the Reporter played with this idea. However, I always think that the best nicknames are those that involve a little twist, rather than a straight line.

 

So. To start off suggestions, if we begin with Popeye, the logical twist is to go for one of his associates, rather than the spinach guzzling sailor himself. Thus Mr Popovic could be:

Olive (as in Olive Oil, Popeye's faithless girlfriend)

Wimpy (as in his hamburger guzzling friend)

Or, my favourite, named after Popeye's personal enemy & rival in love - Brutus.

 

For our other new addition, I have to admit I'm at a loss. The Reporter refers to him as Macca, but that's out of the question. There is only one Macca, now & always.

 

Any suggestions for Mr McCarthy or further thoughts on Mr Popovic?

I can't wait for the Plough End to sing "We love you Dave" and then watch the whole team stare blankly at each other, asking "Who the **** is Dave?" Despite all our efforts, its going to end up 'Poppo', isn't it.? Like Benno & Jacko etc. When in doubt, shorten the name and add an 'o' to the end. Oh, incidentally, as a result of the Aldersh*te incident, Lee Gledhill is now called 'Conkers'!!!

Well done, chaps & congratulations to Alan W for Zippo, which as originator of the thread I declare the winner.

 

However, all wasted mental effort anyway, for if ,as Andy says, he wants to be called Pop, it looks like that's it.
