Would love to see car thieves, vandals and general little menaces line up outside the Town Hall at 9.00 on a Saturday morning, crowds of law-abiding citizens jeering at them, as one by one they are flogged and humiliated in front of the very people whose lives they have been ruining.

 

Saudi Arabia has got it spot on with their policy of cutting off thieves' hands. Shoplifters beware. The Zeal Government is imminent.

I never broke that wingmirror in Chester deliberately, and when it happened, I paid the taxi driver £50 to get it repaired, like any decent person would.

 

On the other hand, credit card thieves...

And if I'd been flogged in front of the town hall, stripped naked, and humiliated in front of the legions of jeering law-abiding citizens, I would make sure that I'd certainly never do it again.

 

In fact, I'd probably never even have got pissed again, just to be on the safe side, so even better news.
