Word reaches me that Colin Lippiat has been made manager.

Excellent stuff.

 

2003.

Cook is sacked and his assistant Castle gets the caretaker manager's job.

We draw 0-0 with the mighty Braintree Town at home.

Castle is given job full-time on the basis of such a good result.

Saints lose 1-9 in Castle's first game as full-time manager.

 

2004

Cash resigns and his assistant Lippiatt gets the caretaker manager's job.

We draw 1-1 with Hornchurch, a team whose major backers have pulled out and their fans are so concerned they arrange a benefit night called Urchin Aid.

Lippiatt is given job full-time on the basis of such a good result.

 

Nice to know we've learned a lot in twelve months.

This I like, especially the bit about going out every night watching games and actively looking out to improve the squad. Makes a change from taking players on offer, probably via the fax machine, from other clubs without even looking at them first.

 

Apparently, he was also at our reserves game last night as well.
