Take the example of Akpo sodje at huddersfield. although to be fair to sodje he has not really been able to get in to their squad.

Just as an aside, I saw on Ceefax this morning that Akpo has secured a deal with Huddersfield until the end of the season.

I'll go now...

The team is a better balanced unit when Jacko is playing on the left with Skins behind him.Obviously he has been hampered with the shin splints for a while and looked a bit slow recently, but give the boy a chance to get fit and he will show you what playing for the Fleet means to him.Until then, don`t criticise!

Just checked the squad pages on Whitebucket and there are 12 players younger than Jacko and eight older. Just because Jacko has been around for a long time doesn't mean he hasn't got a good few years left in him yet.

Oh and going back to the original topic I would rather have seen Ben Abbey stay with us this season. However the nearest I'll ever get to managing the Fleet is in FM 2005!!!

im not saying it doesn't mean anything to him, i am sure it does. He HAS played some awesome football in the name of the fleet, but it was all in the past. We should look to the future, and be bringing in young players, not old fans favourites.

Well, I'm glad you've tempered your comments a little now, but you have to admit that describing one of our longest-serving players ever as a 'has-been' was inevitably going to come across as somewhat harsh.

Admittedly, as I think Jimmy said a few days ago, it is a little naive to see Jacko as the potential saviour when he returns, but nonetheless I, like most other fans I'm sure, will judge Jacko's performances objectively when he returns from his injury. And as Gary points out, he's not really that old. By your logic, signing a 33-year-old this week to play in central defence must be a backward step too...

I still think Louie Evans could have been an excellent player for the Fleet, given time.I remember his goal against Halifax last year and then all of a sudden Andy ships him out on loan. A good player and a good lad, anyone know where Louie is playing now.
