just changing the subject slightly. Arky, what was the biggest attendance at Sosuthbury Road. The best I can remember was v Port Vale in the thrid round replay of the FA Cup when we won 3-0.

Friendly against Spurs in 62/63 Season (E's won 3-2). I think there were 10,000 there!.

Steve King scored 1 - when Vale keeper Steve Cherry completely missed the ball trying to kick clear outside his area.

John Bishop and Ronnie Howell got the others and yes, the wall did collapse (I think it was after Ronnie's goal).

My second EFC game.

Didn't one of our players kiss Bruce the dog after scoring?.

Did'nt we have a massive gate at that Pre-Season Game with Arsenal when they brought the two Trophies

That was Dave F's first Game in charge as Safety Officer for Enfield FC.

I was but a wee yongster in those days. You would find me outside the ground for every home game shouting "PROGRAMMES"! I would get my £1, programme and free entry. The only bad thing about it was I had to work with Derek Bird!!!!!

And Daniel Alleyne was never Off Side, it should have been 1 Nil to EFC. Great Day especially for me & the Mascots on the Day, what a nice geezer that Arsen Wenger bloke is, took both sets of Mascots round the Arsenal Dressing Room.

The biggest attendance at Southbury Road was the inaugeration of the floodlights in 1963. They played Spurs which included Bobby Smith, Medwin, Hollowbread in goal and most of the stars of that era. Bobby Smith also came to our gentlemans evening last season.

The crowd was counted at 10,000 but I reckon that was a guesstimate. I was there BTW and had a view from the top of the grass embankmant in the vicinity of the corner flag next to the playing fields, Kingsmead end. But Kingsmead wasnt there only allotments. The starlight rooms were not there either. There was no cover at either end though there was cover opposite the stand.

The floodlights were presented by Thorns as Mr Jules Thorn was president of the club.

That dog was there at every home game running up and down behind the goal line. OOO the good old days!

Who can remeber the other programme seller, Lenny. I guess he's long passed away now, but what a character!

I have great memories of him moaning in the car park.

Here's a thought, support your team for a lifetime, pass on and get sprinkled over pitch. A lifetime dream for the afterworld........Then some b*stard comes along sells it and you get mashed up under a cinema and houses. Do your relatives think about you when they watch a movie?

I always remember a ref complaining to roy that the goal area was too built up in the middle and that consequently the cross bar was too low.

Roy explained that we could do nothing about it because it was due to the amount of ashes laid to rest there.

The ref accepted that and we carried on....
