Player -of-the-Round Prize - to which school?

PJ-STFC

Recommended Posts

[Assuming Alex has indeed won the vote, as Gary has posted...]

On a separate thread, someone suggested that the £1000-worth of football equipment should be donated to Glen Harris' school.

I had not thought of this, though it makes sense, but we could be losing an opportunity if we donate it directly like that.

It occurred to me that we have the chance of another lump of publicity if the club holds a competition between eligible schools -

the prize being a share of the £1000 football equipment.

(I say share, as it would not be unreasonable to have three (or more) prizes - eg £700, £200, £100).

Haven't worked-out what sort of contest would be most appropriate, except that it ought to be football-related in some way.

Hopefully the FA rules do not preclude such a contest?

Any thoughts?

I guess really it depends on what the equipment is PJ. If for example, two sets of goalposts and a team strip were supplied, you can't really break that down into smaller prizes.

To my mind there are two plausible options for who to give the equipment to.

1. Glen Harris' school

2. St Ethelberts, as they were a near neighbour when we were at Wexham Park and it could help turn the screw on the council a little through a story showing us to be a good neighbour.

of course there may well be other options too. Perhaps give the prize to Claycots Priamry School seeing as it is next to Kennedy Park - now there is an idea

as far as i gather the fa have nothing to do with the gear once they've donated it so there should be no legala or other problems if we were to donate it onto someone else.

Perhaps something simple like a football penalty shootout would be an option, preferably on a match day to get the tickets sales up (sly huh?)

otherwise some kind of auction/lottery based money raiser for the club could be used?

I think to give all £1000 worth of stuff to Westgate School may be a bit of a waste of an opportunity no?

Charlie

It is not unreasonable for STFC to wring-out as much publicity as possible from this prize, but I don't think we could possibly be justified in trying to raise any more money from it - or not directly, at least.

(I must admit, one of my thoughts was that the prize could be awarded to the school from whom the most pupils attended Slough home matches over the season!

Not sure this would go down well though...)

I like the idea of a penalty shoot out! Imagine the tension Little Billy age 7 has to score this penalty to win £1000 worth of equipment for his school! if he misses he goes home with nothing! Oh no he`s missed and is in tears....oooohh half time entertainment! sorry was just feeling a little sadistic b4 going back to work!

i agree mullet at STFC need their input so please don't think i'm putting across a be all and end all attitude to it, was just proffering an opinion!

and to reiterate above posts, a lot of churchmead's kids do attend the matches (thanks in no small part to their english teacher i'm sure.)

as a Churchmead teacher i am biased but we did have about 15 pupils at the Walsall game,,

Only because you threatened to put them in detention if they didn't buy a ticket!

I think it should go to St Joseph's because

a. St Joseph's gave training facitities to Slough town when Mr Carvill was head master there

b. St Joseph's provided Slough town with many players-Lloyd Owusu, C.J., Joe Malloney, Eamon Brophy. Paul Walker

c. it is a neighboring school to wexham park

I think that would send the wrong message to everyone else in Slough.

V. bad publicity.

Much better to use this to say - "Look what we can do when we don't have a home in Slough...

...think what could be achieved if we did have a proper base to work from!"

I agree to give the equipment to a windsor school would be like admitting defeat and resigning ourselves to the fact that this has to be our home.

Should Alex, Glen or any of the lads be reading this, whilst its entirely alex's decision (and he may have personal reasons for selecting a certain school) if he truly has no preference perhaps a draw would be the fairest way.. although I think the idea of a penalty shoot out is more newsworthy and likely to get more coverage... much bigger ya-boo-sucks-to-you SBC...
