I was there not so long ago and decided to have a look-see at the ground - bits are starting to fall apart, some seats are broken, there's a bit of graffiti here and there, and weeds are growing through the terraces. The pitch itself looked fairly good, it's certainly still being cut - only problem at the time was it was a bit dry and there was some sort of mushroom growth in places. This is all hypothetical of course, but I think the place would need at least a month's work to restore the ground so that a decent standard of football can be played on it.

I think what will happen to WP is that the Thornes/Mayfair Comms will sit on the land until it changes from Green Belt and they can develop it for housing. They're not in any immediate need for the money on the site and got it 'on the cheap' at £300,000 for what could be worth many millions when turned into housing which will happen at some stage, be it five years, ten or fifty. They'll still be sitting on the land.

And we have to make sure that however long it takes, there is an active opposition to it ever being developed for anything other than a football ground, since that is for what it was originally given to Slough Town Football Club.

Marcus, the freehold is now owned by the Thornes/Mayfair so they can do whatever they like to the land provided they get the required permissions etc.

As Martin says, provided they can get permission.

And as what somebody else called "the rabid South Bucks Council" will have a say, I think we should make it as painful for the Thornes as it possibly can be by opposing any planning applications for development of housing etc

I'm writing to the South Bucks Planning Officer to see what their interest is precisely and will post what they say on here.
