We were brilliant for about three hundred seconds and then faded a bit. A case of after the Lord Mayor's show if you ask me.

 

I think the fact it was one nil at half time gave Worthing hope and they certainly deserved a point after dominating the second half when we did not see much of the ball. It was a struggle playing the entire second half without a central midfielder.

 

If we win our games in hand we would go third but I would rather have the points on the board. But not a lot we can do about that what with these bloody cup matches getting in the way. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

As a matter of interest, who did we miss most in this match.........Spence, Wilko or Mets??? Maybe I have always underestimated what Mets brings to the team?

I'm not sure we missed those players as such, but I think that Chopper dropping deeper to cover one of the defensive midfield roles rather than supporting the strikers had more of an impact. That and losing Haddow on the wing when Spence went off - no offence to Danny.

Matt Murphy didn't play badly but he didn't have the presence of Wilkinson.

 

I got the feeling that following the Walsall game we assumed that if we defended well, we'd nick one on the break. Apart from the one gaff the back line DID hold up well but on the rare occasions we got into their half we looked panicky and never kept possession for more than a few seconds. Let's hope it was "just one of those days"....

 

Did anyone see that strange incident with Allaway in the second half? He appeared to ignore a long range shot that came pretty much straight at him. He didn't move his arms, even though he had plenty of time to, and let the ball skid off his thigh for a corner. Baffling.

Rebel1407, I managed to completely miss that incident. But I tried to block much of the second half from my mind.

 

In my opinion we needed one of Mets and Wilko playing and without them the midfield struggled. Matt Murphy played ok in difficult conditions and seemingly out of position. Don't know exactly where he would like to play but I doubt ball winning central midfielder would be his first choice.
