Not sure if i am the first to report on the game from someone who was there on this post and if i am not then i apologise.

 

First saints a bottom club then i dont know how cos they were quick pacy and often accurate passers of the ball. The no.5 was a class player and will go places and they had wingers yes good old fashioned wingers who first half drove us n uts. They knew the route to goal and took it. They had 3 corners in succession i think before our first attack which we scored from.

 

Yep there was shoddy defending again at times but two of the goals did not come from jacky bakers defending. Trego almost gifted them a goal with a sloppy clearence and also from where we were miles away seemed to dive over the ball for their second.

 

The pitch was huge which i like but it took us a bit of time to use it properly. Che was mag. again and once again could have had his hattrick by half time. Rocky was rocky yep missed a sitter in injury time and the ball pinged pong down to our goal and they missed a sitter too. But his goal was magnificent a deliberate header from acorner they whistled in under the xbar. The game reminded me of Leigh away last year but our defending was better(just) than that.

 

Che got hurt near the end which rather put him off and Oatsy came on to a huge roar from the 35 or 40 gate fans who made ourselves heard in the second half. One did feel it was 2 points dropped but Saints looked better than Newport, by along chalk, they would have given the likes of Weston a good game too.

 

Great to see Che banging them in. If only we could defend with confidence.

You may be right about the ground, but nevertheless, trust we are aiming for top 5 spot.

 

I absolutely maintain that with Oates and green on the way back, we are one quality midfield player short of a good side.

 

We need more that JK, Clarke, gradley and possibly Benevides in midfield.

I did not see yesterday, but have seen enough to know that Benevides has alot of potential but is not up to consistent standard required in this league to play 40 good games a season.Next season he will be but is still developing ,and unfortunately this game is mainly about the here and now.

The same applies to Charambolous.He needs continual grooming and experience and next season will be alot better player and will understand the toughness-mentally and physically needed in this league.

I wish both well and great careers with MFC but in fairness to them ,they are for the near future, but if we are to turn this season into something decent, we need extra midfield graft, cunning ,class and physical strength now

 

Thats before we get injuries and suspensions,players off form/no form in the first place, no alternatives on the bench, as we found out yesterday.

 

Just one quality player in the JK mould who can hold the ball up.

 

This will take pressure off the beleagured defence ,and enable it to compose and organise itsef.

 

I just feel we are so close to being a decent side;and this one position is where we are currently lacking.

 

Credit to CK for getting us this far compared to our situation in July.Just hope he can (afford) this one extra bit of strengthening required.

I do notice though that over the last 3 seasons, Chris never seems to sign many decent midfield players.

Apart from Gradley, the last proper midfield player CK signed on permanent basis was Clarke .

Our main problem is giving away stupid goals - we've been doing that all season. We could easily have lost yesterday. They had a couple of great chances after we equalised, though of course that has to be balanced by Rocky's shocking headed miss.

Remember one thing, its not a kick about down the park.....Rocky Baptiste is paid to score goals (Around £400 a week) and I pay to watch him score goals (around £8 a week), Was you actually there? Did you make the trip? Did u struggle to get home in the traffic cos the M25 was shut?

Frankly......Baptiste missed a sitter, if it was Che it would have been 4-3, Baptiste's work rate is questionable, I have been patient all season....but me, like many true Margate fans (who go to all the games) have seen him missing one to many - way to often.

COuldnt our £400 a week be spent elsewhere? Baptiste is a spent force.

i remember that game Geoff at Leigh 5mins to go scored to make it 4-1 to Leigh & the boys were singing were gona win 5-4 them were the good old days <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon_band222.gif" alt="" />

I have seen Che miss goals as well as you have.Che is a credit to the Margate side,so is Rocky,you slag off a player because you pay £8 to see a game then tell us he is a twat for missing one header,why dont you p off and go and watch Sunday football. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/yeahthat.gif" alt="" />
