Statement On Shane Huke

Statement from Mick Ewen, Secretary of Hornchurch Football Club

There have been rumours surrounding Shane Huke and the FA Cup match played away at Boston United, and the fact that he was illegible to play - this is true. The club signed Shane along with two other players from Peterborough United, Friday morning. At no time during our discussions with Peterborough United did they mention that any of these players were cup tied. It has since transpired that Shane appeared as a substitute whilst at Cambridge City in a earlier round. The annoying fact is that he was only on the park for one minute.

The club had long discussions with the FA’s competition department on both Thursday and Friday to check that all the players that had been signed none were not cup tied. From the conversations and the list that we had sent them, three players were cup tied, two of whom we knew about (Ian Cousins and Andy Thomlinson), the other person was Tony Maynard who had appeared as a last minute substitute for Braintree in an earlier round.

The three Peterborough players were not discussed, as as far as we were concerned they were signed from a Football League club who are yet to make their debut in the competition. The fact that Shane Huke was loaned out to Cambridge City, was not mentioned to me by Peterborough United, we had no idea he had been loaned out and was cup tied.

I apologise profusely for the error, as at the end of the day, it is down to me I am devastated by what has occurred and am only thankful it did not go to a replay, purely from a financial point of view, I have written a letter to the FA explaining the situation and why it occurred, and we await a reply to the letter.

Once again my apologies to all concerned.

Thanks for your support.

Maybe, just maybe, the FA should consider shifting the responsibility to the player...

Then the club asks the player "have you played..."; they say no and sign a form which the club then posts off the FA.

If there is an error then the player is fined not the club.

If Hornchurch had won the match you'd be looking at a loss of prize money and income from the next round.

You're a great secretary mate and one who has worked his socks off for the last few months, especially recently, this is a one off and very unfortunate.
Keep up the good work and we'll have a beer asap.

Hi Dan,

Welcome to remedial English class.

Lesson 1: "Im" should be apostrophised - "I'm"

Lesson 2: Try to make sense. Shane could *have* - not "of"

Lesson 3: very similar to lesson 2. *spoken* up.

That is all.

Class dismissed. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
