Dear Mr Chairman,

You describe this message board as "trash" and you may, or may not come on here. If you don't, then some of your colleagues who, with you, have the responsibility of the running of this football club might. I will appeal to them in your absence.

I know that you don't like the people on here to highlight and comment upon the words ascribed to you in the local and national press, but that 'goes with the territory' in my view.

In the St Albans Observer this morning, the tone of the article by Marc Dodd is that Colin Lippiatt will be appointed to the manager's post upon your return from business abroad and you are quoted as follows:

"It's difficult to know where to start really, what we don't want to have to do is start the whole process (of finding a new manager) again. I have to say it's embarrassing as well. We've sent out letters to all other applicants saying the position has been filled..."

Last week it was vitally important for the future of this football club that the right applicant was identified and appointed. Today, in my view, it's doubly important. No-one's 'embarrassment' should come into the matter. So why don't you "want to start the whole process again"?

I have nothing against Colin Lippiatt. If he applied for the job last week and, after appropriate enquiries by you and your colleagues, was ultimately second on the list to Stuart Cash, that's fine. If, in your view, there were better qualified persons than Colin Lippiatt, however, then I suggest that you contact them again, explain the position and check their availability before the Assistant Manager is offered this post.

Colin Lippiatt has been the manager of a number of football clubs. I will take it for granted that you and your colleagues have made appropriate enquiries at those clubs and that you have heard nothing to dissuade you that he is suitably qualified for the post of Assistant Manager. I urge that you approach those same contacts and check their view of his suitability for the Manager's role at this football club before it is offered to him.

If, after careful consideration and having made the appropriate enquiries, you and your colleagues consider that Colin Lippiatt is the right man, then, of course, that's fine by me and let's all get on with it.

For Heaven's sake however, please get it right. Good luck from me.
