Richard Stokes has replied to the paper's article from Monday in the letters section of the sports pages .

Reckons they are trying to support the club but wont use tax payers money for a privatly owned club .

Says Monday's article was negative . Cheers Richard , unlike you huh ?

The full letter is below...

Sir - With reference to your report about Slough Town Football Club (Nov 15). The words attributed to me are not something that I have ever said and I would like to make the council's position clear. We are continuing to work to help fully support the club in their aim to secure a long-term future. However, we are not able to commit taxpayers' money to finding a site for the club, which is privately owned.

The report also fails to include all of the material that we supplied to show that Slough is a thriving, vibrant town with many national and international companies based here. It is a shame for local residents and Slough Town Football Club supporters that the piece was so negative about a town of which we are all justly proud.

Richard Stokes

Leader of Slough Borough Council, Berkshire

Don't want to commit public funds to the football club but are quite happy to take the £300k that was gained from the sale of Wexham Park and not re-invest one penny into STFC or into sorting out a new site.

As for putting public money into a private club well, Mr Stokes, you can f***ing whistle if you think any of my council tax is paying to regenerate Britwell when you could have had millions for nothing.

Has their ever been a crucifixion in Slough? How about Mr Stokes nailed to one of the floodlights at Wexham Park? I wonder how much of OUR tax money is being used to fund various other group round the council, quite a lot i would imagine (HAs anyone looked at a lottery grant for slough, esp now with our recent publicity?)

I think Ian raises a good point with regards to the 300k raised from the sale of Wexham Park. What happened to that money? Then they haggle about compensating Deaner.

It was also interesting to note that we have not had a note of congratulation from Stokes or Janik or any of the other councillors who told us face to face that they support the team.

I fully expect to see a letter from every councillor who was elected to SLOUGH Borough Council in the local press this week praising the team (and the supporters) efforts. Of course, they are probably busy arranging a coup so they can set up independent states. If it is good enough for the Vatican it is good enough for Britwell.

Stokes - goes to the trouble of writing to The Telegraph and cannot even be bothered to put in his letter PS great result.

Amazing how this decrepped 81 year old F--K wit who is almost in his coffin can decide the future of our football club! The sooner he pushes up the daises the better for our future....

Charming - That's just the way to get people on your side. No wonder our pleas fall on deaf ears.

- Our team and supporters have shown - what we are about this past few weeks and how really we are committed in keeping the pressure up !

We have offered the olive branch out ! On Sky sports last Sunday - every single supporter (although not happy at our shabby treatment by the council) said its time to work out a solution with the council and get back Slough to its roots !

However again we have been slapped in the face !

By terms :

We cant give public money to a private football club ! or amalgamate or we will do our best ! to try and get Wexham Park Stadium back for you ?

Yes we are riding a crest of the wave at the moment and the efforts of the team and its management team are doing miricales, but soon the FA cup magic will fade....But the Council need to realise we here to ensure the pressure is kept going until we can all see fit to sort this problem out ?

The Town needs its Football Club to be back here in Slough and its time to embrase this fact !

Slough Town until I die !!!

Up the Rebels...

From what I heard, the 300k had been ringfenced to use as compensation. If you recall the first Council meeting on this they said that the total liability on the Council would be £250k if it didn't go ahead at their insistence. Notwithstanding the debate over whether selling the freehold of the site was a good idea, the proceeds from WP being retained but not allocated was eminently sensible as it meant that the worst the Council could do was show a £50k profit on the whole situation.

I like the way that Janik and Stokes perpetuate this myth that the football club wants a handout. When has that ever been the case? As far as I know Martyn Deaner has always been prepared to purchase land from the council and just needs them to find a suitable site which they're prepared to allocate to the football club rather than anything else. Telling people we're asking for handout's is a far better spin to put on it from their point of view though, even if it contradicts the facts.

For all what we think of Richard Stokes and his followers....we must not resort to postings by ABO...it will not do the cause any good !

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM SIMILAR POSTINGS PLEASE !!!!

Our Team and its supporters are doing its best to offer the olive branch out to Cllr Stokes and the Town's people are behind us 100%

Thanks to The local papers/ Star FM / and the many people who have written to me to thank our club/players and its supporters for the joy and happiness it has brought to our town ! and made many proud to wear the shirt with the town's badge on it with the words ( TO SERVE WITH HOUNOUR)

All we want is a football ground in Slough !!!

and the time for the new council to take this on board and work together to solve the solution !

Lets not go over the old ground again and again...

We are Slough , not to almgermated nor to play for ever outside the borough...

No for several reasons.

a) They don't have a Party HQ

B) If they did they probably wouldn't be there on a Saturday.

c) Even if they did have a Party HQ and were there on a Saturday, I'd doubt very much they would give a toss about us being there with red cards.
