Too right BFR - the Alfreton chap is on 0.05%, so to get an idea for how many votes have been cast, multiply by 20:

(20 * 0.05 = 1)

95% * 20 = 1900

So, for every vote the Alfreton player has received, Haddow has received 1900.

Has someone written a Javascript to automatically cast votes anonymously?

Perhaps the FA need to tighten the voting system somewhat (and this could well be the trigger, unfortunately).

[PS - on the brighter side, I have had confirmation from some of my colleagues that they have voted too - so Alex has received a few more genuinely unique votes!]

But that does assume that 'everyone' has entered their name and address for the competition!

I didn't, as I saw no need to try and win tickets to the Slough match, so I was going to let someone else win.

After your suggestion, I tried entering my details (on the vote result popup that showed 'vote not added') and after selecting 'submit', the FA's application suffered a server error ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object." - it even showed me the code to debug, which was nice of them!) I think there's a general lack of testing around their website!

Terrific! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wall.gif" alt="" />

Unfortunately PJ, and also referring to another post you made regarding this on another thread, the cookies thing has been well known in the previous rounds of voting also. The FA will need to investigate this and essentially, the panel should be watching full match videos from each game and making the decision themselves.

In the meantime, let's give Alex the honour of VIP status at the FA Cup final by continuing to vote for him. It will be a great honour for him, and a chance for us to repay him for his performances in the past 18 months.

Please don't get me wrong, Gary, I'm all for Alex getting the credit he deserves. It will be a major boost for him and the club, and, as I have said elsewhere, I have been encouraging others to vote too.

But it would be rather better for all concerned if the FA's voting system was tight enough to prevent this cirumnavigation. I was just uncomfortable that our fans forum could be accused of advocating cheating, and I was (and still am) worried that the blatant voting levels might make the FA pull the plug on the vote. That said, I have no evidence myself that anyone has actually made multiple votes...

I think we agree that it would be better for the expert panel to make the final choice, if only to avoid the situation where the team with the biggest fanbase wins.

(BTW - have you noticed that the Alfreton guy has received another vote? He is now on 0.06% <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />)

Nowhere on the FA site though does it restrict multiple voting. Hinckley themselves have done their homework and have published similar things on their messageboard, as did Bath City for the last round in which their player won.

Ultimately, I agree though. It should be up to the panel to decide. I notice that AFC Wimbledon's Rob Ursell won a vote in an earlier round. They've certainly got the biggest fanbase and construed the biggest vote, probably with multiple votes each, so why shouldn't we?

It would provide us with more ammunition to fire back at the council if Haddow were to win.

I'm not sure that making moral decisions on the basis that 'everyone's doing it' is a good path to take...

However, if the practice is being encouraged at all rounds and by multiple clubs, then the widespread knowledge of the cookies issue restores the vote to a level playing field. And therefore it would be unfair to single-out the Slough fans as 'cheats'.

(As we are now violently agreeing with each other, Gary, I'll shut up!)

Exactly.

And the whole question is artificial anyway. How can the average fan be asked who the best player in the round is and judge objectively? I certainly did not see enough of the Alfreton, Hinckley and Histon games to make any comparisons to the perfromances of our boys.

I was hard pressed to pick our man of the match as I thought they were all heroes.

This is all about motivating your vote. I have got relatives, work colleagues, friends, friends of friends to have a vote. I am sure this and the other threads on this site have also drawn some support from our mates at Hornchurch, Walsall and Railway etc etc. So is it a surprise Al leads? IMO opinion no, although the margin is daft. But every other vote this season has been like that so boo hoo.

Personally I think the whole things a ploy by the other teams. They're letting us think Haddow is away and clear and then on Sunday night they will flood the website with votes and Al will lose. Its all tactics but I see their game and we shall not allow it! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I've got loads of my mates to vote (the ones that usually laugh at me for supporting Slough, when i live in Brighton but now are being quite respectful).

In earlier rounds i voted for the East Preston striker (whose deaf) who scored to put the very small sussex county league club into the 3rd qualifying round - but he was up against someone from AFC Wimbledon.

Guess who won?
