New ground

Recommended Posts

I'm bored, waiting to go to work.

Have just checked out the internet football grounds guide for some inspiration as to what out new ground should look like, capacity, seats, etc.

I reckon we should go for 8000 capacity, which includes 2000 seats.

cover on all 4 sides too.

THe prettiest ground I found was Livingston in the SPL.

Any other ideas?

At least it's not a ****** H******Ch posting!!!

i think we should stay at Stonebridge Road. knock down the main stand and make it all seater down that side of the pitch. with a little bit for the away fans. you know where knowone stands. redo the stadning area at both ends of the ground with a decent roof and on the halfway stand.

do the car park up and have that tarmaced.

bigger shop and new toliets.

sorted.

i will wake up soon.

i know its alot of money but surely cheaper than building a staduim form scratch.

Although we don't own the site, we have been allowed to undergo improvements in the past of course (such as redoing the terracing in the Stonebridge Road end stand a few years back). I'm a little unsure as to how far you can go with improvements before they're not allowed if you don't own the site - or is that related to our covenant with the owners (Lafarge?). Any experts out there?

We can't stay at Stonebridge Road theres not enough pavement space. It would involve moving the the ground north about 300 yards at my guess and were as near as we can be to the river at the moment.

I wouldn't like to see us move from Stonebridge Road 100 years and all that. Oh well perhaps we should wait until we in Championship Div one (or whatever) and the Gills are in the conference then move to Gillingham.

Is it not the case that the ground must remain a recreational facility or 'open space' even if it is no longer used by The Fleet? I remember an old chap telling me it was one of the covenents on the title to the land. In the distant past there may have been some goodwill offset demonstrated by The Blue Circle Company, or whoever was before them, during negotiations towards development of land for factories and quarrying. When the ground was built there was nothing there but the old stream that runs under the car wash facility and open fields. I believe way back the site was an area of old drainage ponds.

That old stream was the navigable river Ebbsfleet. During roman times Roman vessels used to go as far as Springhead to the roman settlement. In later times a stone bridge used to cross the Ebbsfleet (A tollgate) at the bottom of the hill close to the Fleets ground.

A little bit of useless information I know, but some may find it interesting.

Ho,ho,ho. You were joking right ? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

On a some what related point at my work I spoke to three people who follow arsenal, chelsea and tottenham. All laughed when I said I supported the fleet and all were totaly serious when they said that it wasn't possible to fit more then 2,500 into the ground!! It kind of shows what non-fans think of the ground.
Also one believed gillingham are a big club (which considering they are in the championship its easy to say that) and that they got crowds of 18000!!

And no-onehas mentioned the Parking problem. With only 2000 for the Carlisle game, the parking was K-OTIC,with cars parked on the verges,on both sides of the road, going back nearly half a mile on the new road, and all the local roads and industrial sites full. There is only one answer..move,probably Ebbsfeet?
