Letter To Slough Express - In Response

There were two letters in the Slough Express this week regarding the football club. One from everyone's favourite councillor, Paul Janik, and another from Barry Marsden.

In response, I have submitted the following letter (subject to the Express editing):

"It was interesting to note in Cllr Janik’s letter to the Express last week (‘Get Real On Football’ Fri Nov 12) that the council do not have sufficient money to provide essential service for Slough’s children, elderly and disabled. In which case, why then, did Cllr Stokes come out with some very misinformed comments in the press shortly after his establishment as leader of the council regarding the feasibility study for Kennedy Park? This in turn has now cost the council tax payers money to complete, when there was never any cost to the council on the starting project. If it had been decided to use another developer other than Mr Deaner should the land have been suitable for any form of development involving a 6,000 CAPACITY stadium on the site, then, and only then, would the council have picked up the cost. So I think Cllr Janik should be ashamed at trying to pass the blame from Labour and the football club away from his own coalition parties comments. I say his coalition, I am of course presuming he is happy to toe the party line again having already decided to be truly independent since his re-election.

In addition, Mr Marsden also passed comment on the proposals for the stadium in his letter ‘A Case Of A Minority’. The stadium would have been a community project which would have developed youth teams under the guidance of the club in the hope that another of Lloyd Owusu’s ilk can be spawned by Slough Town FC and represent the town. Lloyd has done very well with his career which started at Slough and may be playing Premiership football next season against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea for his current team, Reading. Members of the club and the supporters trust would be looking after the ground maintenance in addition. Each summer at Wexham Park, many man hours were spent in completing various tasks around the ground sprucing it up for the coming season, and it is no different now as we help out at Windsor & Eton’s ground where we can.

I have the pleasure in writing this note following on from the club’s excellent 2-1 win over professional side Walsall on Saturday. It shows there is the interest in the club in the local and surrounding areas and that the support is there for the club. With the draw today pairing us at home to another non-league side from the Ryman Premier Division, there is an excellent chance Slough Town could be drawn against Premiership opposition at home in the next round should we be lucky enough to progress.

I can only hope now that the council’s supposed promises of help from earlier in this season will actually come to fruition with a new ground back within Slough. We’re proud of the town we represent as was clear to see on the BBC footage of the match at the weekend and we want to become a part of Slough’s community again. We’ll keep fighting the cause to return to the borough and re-establish the community links once again."

I would expect there to be some reduction of comments in there from the Editorial team at the paper, hence my posting of it on here.

I've just finished writing different letters to the Observer and the Express.

It would be a great way of keeping the pressure up if everyone on the forum could write a letter to the papers at anytime over the next few weeks---any subject, how great Slough are, how useless Stokes is, how you are looking forward to the next match, etc etc or even replying to one of the pieces of nonsense that Janik is bound to write.

Lets keep Slough's profile up.

All, brilliant game Saturday, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Sent my emails of to the papers and have managed to encourage quite a few mates to do the same. Keep up the great work on the Supporters Club..

Been a Slough Town Supporter for 38 years and satuurday's win against Walsall has to be the highlight of all the big games that I have seen. Credit must not only go to the team and management but also the fans specially Walsall who came down to have an enjoyable day out mixing with their counterparts in the pubs beforehand all having stories to tell of past days out and making the the most of it win lose or draw, and no trouble insight.

Plaudits have been given to the team and game with superb coverage in the press radio and tv putting the football club on the map with more to come.

Just hope Slough Council can see the mistakes that they have made in the past and that they see the light of day in getting the club back where they belong back in SLOUGH!!!!!!
