Slough Town v Yeading FA Cup 2nd Round

Not the greatest draw but at least it's at home and not away to Yeading. I think we were all hoping for another league club, be it home or away. My preferences were Brentford/Bristol City, Wycombe or Hull City. The problem with this tie is: 1. We could well get beaten. 2. I'd be surprised if the crowd is more than 1,500 as Yeading won't bring much suppport. 3. Very unlikely to be selected for live TV coverage. 4. Won't make much cash out of the game. What does everyone else think?

It's a fantastic draw for Slough if you look at things rationally. In fact, before the draw started I was saying that Yeading at home was about the best you could get.

Firstly, it's definitely a winnable match. Slough are very good at home and have already held 'Ding to a 2-2 draw at Stag Meadow. If it goes to a replay, it's not too far too travel and would mean a reasonable away following too.

Okay, so it's not going to be a huge crowd and it won't be on TV, but just think of the prize that's at stake...

If you win, Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool etc. all await. An away tie with Manchester United would bring in over half a million to the Club.

After inital disappointment i'm starting to look at the positives. Two even teams, which means we can win - we are at home and we will play our own game and not worry so much about them.

Then **if** we did win and plum tie in the third round and how much pressure would that put on the council???

Personally I think its a good draw, OK its not against a bigger team but it gives us the possiblity of reaching the next round with a much greater prize!

We also have an increased chance of winning, our home record is good and to a degree, it can be similar to a league match.

Aaaargh. The one tie only Dominic appeared to want in the club house. I understand the reaction to the draw was shown on Sky Sports, which would have been funny. Big cheer as we're drawn at home, big, big groan as we've drawn Yeading.

There's two ways of looking at this.

1. It's a very winnable tie.

2. If we go out, it will be unbearable.

What happened last time we knocked out a league side? We drew a non-league team in the 2nd round and got knocked out. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I saw it on sky sports news, was soo funny to watch. Great chear for the home draw, then watching everybodys face including Eddie's when the guy called out Yeading.

Also seeing Daly's interview was good as well, even though it was cut short by technical problems.

Just having some more thoughts on the Yeading game. After saying we won't make much money on the gate/tv at least we won't need any segregation, police or stewards against Yeading??!! Seriously though, are they likely to bring any more than 100 fans? Saw on the Ryman forum, their attendance of 500 yesterday, about 300 were from Halesowen!!! I'd be surprised if we get more then the Walsall gate for this one. But then again if it's promoted/marketed properly we could get a good one. If we play at our best we can win this tie and imagine being in that 3rd round draw? just think getting away to Man Utd and pocketing the club £500,000?! OK i'll stop thinking too far ahead now, let's concentrate on winning this one first!!!

Before the draw I was hoping for either Wycombe or Yeading, both at home. I think its a very good draw. Its in our own hands. We CAN win this one and get a BIG opposition in 3rd round. Hope the game is on Sunday as it will attract a lot of neutral support. Plus I can't make the Sat!!

Can't imagine it would need to be made all ticket, no segregation required, and no policing. Will be a lot easier to arrange than Walsall, but I'd rather be arranging something like that again than the draw we got (no disrespect to Yeading, but I'd rather have had any league side).

A Sunday match would be good as we'd get a few ground hoppers along plus perhaps a mix of Chelsea/Brentford/Reading/Maidenhead/Windsor who want to catch a game as they did vs Salisbury.

Considering the profile of the match at Yeading in the first round and the fact they only got around 150-200 fans for that, I wouldn't expect more than 50-100 to make the short journey, which to be frank, would be a disgrace.

Would expect a crowd of between 1500-2000 depedning on the marketing and if this catches the imagination of the local public. Somehow, I don't think it will, but then some sort of scheme for tickets stubs will allow for a ticket for the next round? Something like that?

'300 were from Halesowen', I was there travelled from the West Mids, my guess is around 400 from Halesowen, really dismal turnout from the home fans, not sure how they keep going on such gates. They blamed it on Hayes being at home and having a more attractive game.

I think it's a good draw now thinking about it with the prize money on offer and the chance of a premier league club next round for the winners.

On the downside. I can't see Yeading bringing more than 100. Good team, but poor support. As four ourselves, well there is no Paul Merson and Walsall factor this time, so i'd be suprised if the gate (sadly tops) 1,000. If it's a Sunday I think we will break 1,000.

Yeading are v goog going forwards, but not so crash hot at the back, so if we can keep it tight, we will create chances for oursleves.

I am a semi-neutral, being an ex Slough resident and Rebel watcher (home and away) in the late 70s and I intend to come along.Just one point- please make sure that it is clear on the web how people get tickets (if it is all-ticket) and make it as easy as possible for people like me to grab one eg by phone.

Good luck!

It's going to be awful if we go out to Yeading, probably worse than if we had lost yesterday (apart from the money, of course). The joys of being a football fan, the euphoria of yesterday is gone and now I am worrying about a game in 3 weeks time. Still, it will be nice to get back to the league on Saturday, even if it is for only a week with the Trophy and FA Cup coming after.

It looks like we are going to be catching up some fixtures at some point.
