Gate 240

Enfield Town 2 Basildon United 0

A score line that tended to make Basildon United feel a bit disappointed that they did not get more but a game where Town Bouncebacability really mattered in order to get 3 points.

Early in the first half David Allen broke away and was almost in a one on one with the keeper but just shot wide. At the other end Chopper was continuing to show why he is just so good with some good saves. Just on the half hour Lee Smith full of confidence shot from almost the halfway line just going wide.

When a Basildon player went down injured the defence did appear to sit down and one began to wonder if they would tire?

Rudi Hall was is awesome form with a fantastic run along the edge of the box that unfortunately did not get the finish we had hoped for from David Allen but the run was good.

At half time Stuart Snowden came on for Graeme Hall.

On 50 minutes a lovely David Allen header just shaved the post. Town continued to work on their dummies in attack with three dummies before Matty unfortunately fell over.

On 60 minutes Dean Nyman came on for Steve Baldwin and immediately had towns first shot on target. The ball was soon bobbling around in the box with a wicked spin on it but the Basildon keeper did well to save. Crosses were coming in and we were falling over ourselves trying to get a shot in.

For the next 10 minutes Basildon had their best spell in the match with attack after attack and Town fans began to fear the worse. 1 point or even a possible loss.

On 79 minutes Chopper kicked a massive kick out and Rudi Hall headers the ball past the Basildon Keeper. 1 – 0. At last! We all relaxed at the thought at least it would be 1 point.

In the 89th minute came the icing on the cake a lovely cross by Dean Nyman and a looping header from Matty Negus. YES.

With the Waltham Abbey game winter mid season break beginning today they didn’t play so did come along to watch.

3 priceless points. We’re coming to get you Abbey!

lets be fair bas were pretty well organised, but you should have finished them off early but was woefull in front of goal.........bas have come on well in the last few weeks credit to them, but I think all teams etc will say keep plugging away till the final whistle and see whats happens. full credit you did that today well done.

Well done ET. Didn't quite match my 3-0 prediction but who cares? 3 points are all that counts. We lost 2-1 to S'end Manor, didn't see it as I was with our ressies, a great result, 3-3 away to Maldon Town Res.

I agree with Abbeynut. We have not given Basildon enough credit. 0-0 at half time was pretty fair. They defended well and always looked very dangerous on the break. After Deano came on in the second half we were much sharper and I think we just about deserved the win. Credit to their keeper, he played well. Oh, and I guess Chopper did OK too, although still has failed to score a goal!

Always a bone of contention this playing "added time" . At the end of the day when that final whistle went it HAS to be 90 mins however miffed you feel at the Ref's idea of time. Matt had scored a minute before it i.e 89 mins and as Rudi's goal had been 10 minute before that and there had been no more stoppages, even though folk thought it was 86 mins I reckon you have to deduct the timing from the final whistle which was 90 mins - 11 mins = 79 mins.....Unless, of course you have your own stop-watch in which case I stand corrected. So, what I am getting at after all this gubbins is that, although Southport is not wrong in saying 95 mins, Compo isn't wrong either in stating the times as 79 and 89 mins... oh and by the way, it was a brilliant game played in the best of spirits and shows that the League table does not lie in terms of the best two sides being 1 and 2 at present.

I thought ETFC were average today. Chopper in great form though.Nyman made the difference when he came on in the last 15 minutes.

Whats happened to Brad. In the last few weeks, he doesn't look the same player. Is he carrying a knock. Dave Allen disapointed also.Where's Cary.Where's Penn.Where's Everitt

Chablis - about as logical as a woman explaining the off side law!

HAPPY - you have obviously got a pc @ home now, see told you if you did a bit of work you'd have some money!!

back to the game - Abbey makes a good point about; we DID actually keep "plugging away" We have seen so many games get to 75 minutes and we stop playing

Also, another home match that finished after five o'clock.Have ETFC ever played less than 100 minutes at home.???

I made it 8 minutes added in the second half this time.

If according to the advertisement Thierry Henry can play 45 minutes added on then we can play 10 minutes. The Sky is the limit - Just wait until Barkingside comes to town! On the other hand we might be grateful!
