Song for Allaway

PJ-STFC

Recommended Posts

Thought that Shaun deserved his own thread, as Whincup has got two running in parallel at present!

Any ideas for a song for our new goalie?

Dredged from the depths of my mind was the children's nursery song 'Alouette' (pronounced A-loo-ett-a), as in:

"Alouette, gentille Alouette,

Alouette je te plumerai"

Not entirely sure how this might convert into a chant but was starting with:

'Allaway, our goalie's Allaway [yes]

Allaway...'

...but that's as far as I got. (I don't claim to be a lyricist!)

Any more ideas?

Incidentally, I thought it would be useful to discover how this translated.

Isn't the web wonderful?

One translation site later and I discover it means:

[color:"purple"] "Lark, nice lark, I will pluck you...' [/color]

And this is sung by nursery age children!

The song that came to my mind was Lets Go All the Way, which was a minor hit for Sly Fox in the mid 80s and Insane Clown Posse have covered it in more recent times. Unfortunately I don't think too many other people will know it and so trying to do anything with the melody could be difficult.

Quite simple really. The chorus for that song was

Lets go all the way

Lets go all the way

yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Lets go all the way.

A simple change in pronounciation makes it

Lets go allaway

Well, BFR, I remember it too (now you come to mention it).

Not sure that it would work well, for reasons you stated. Also, not sure the subtleties of the tune would translate well to the terraces...

Another song snippet that came to mind was '...all the way from Memphis...', but the tune escapes me entirely.

PING!

Another one literally just came to mind.

Do you remember 'All the way from America', by Joan Armatrading?

And I'm sure there are more...

It's catchy, not many words, so you wont need a hymn sheet and for an F.A.Cup tie where you will attract NEW fans or supporters that have probably not watched you for a few years, they will be able to join in and help you create some noise.

Looking forward to watching your highlights on Match of the day, and more importantly hearing your boys sing.

Off to think about the Iron beating Eastleigh. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Bye.

How about this for recognition of his saves in his debut match...

Allaway, Allaway, standing in our goal

Allaway, Allaway, his first game was Walsall

The game was won

Merson was done

Allaway, Allaway

Let's not forget to give Eddie the credit he deserves for a very brave decision in letting Jake go and bringing in Sean at the last minute. That could have seriously backfired although once again, our manager has pulled a rabbit out of the hat.

Good luck to Jake in the future and long may Sean continue to perform like yesterday for the Rebels.

How about a song along the lines of the rugby drinking song "Get them down you Zulu warrior, Get them down you Zulu Chief! Chief! Chief!"?

Something like ...

"All-a-way the forward worrier ...

Allaway-saves with hands & feet! feet! feet!"

BTW - How the F do you log into this forum ??? The software won't accept my given password ... or any of the temporary passwords that I have requested over the last few days.

Ho hum ...
