Whincup Departs as Allaway arrives

Well, I know that people have said that sentiment should be set aside, but seeing Jake depart with such a sour view of STFC, having been a contributor in us getting this far, is very disappointing - "it's not what you do, but the way that you do it" - and this seems to me to have been a bit brutal, to a lad who has done his best for us - and a best we have been happy with.

I wish our new goalie all the best for his debut and just hope he can quickly establish some rapport with the defence, which will be hard for a totally new keeper playing his first game in such an important match.

Best of luck to Jake, I was really hoping we would sign him permanently and it's unfortunate if he's left with a bad taste in his mouth, either of Eddie or the club as a whole. Having said that, he did look shaky against Salisbury with 1,200 in the ground and with almost 3,000 (hopefully) expected against Walsall, would he be any more confident? Who's to say, but I think it's a bit of a shame, both for us and Jake himself. With that said, good luck Shaun Allaway tomorrow and COME ON YOU REBELS !!

I'm totally apalled at the way this matter seems to have been handled and feel it shows Eddie has no respect for Jake at all. That said I'm sure Eddie has the best interests of the club at heart and will no doubt feel he has made the right decision.

Good luck Jake for all that you do in the future and Thank You for your contribution to Slough Town this season.

It is sad to see Whincy leave us as I thought he was a very promising keeper who has turned out a lot of good performances for Slough. I wish him well with his future career. As for Mr Allaway, I think this is quite an exciting signing. A recent England U20 international. He may only be here with us to put himself in the shop window with Match of the Day coming along but I can see him making a big impact in tomorrows game

I may be completely wrong about this, but I think some of the above comments might be a little unfair to both Eddie and Jake.

We do not know all the issues that Eddie has had to consider to find a new goalie to replace Jake, or of any issues of timing. Did Eddie know before yesterday that Allaway would definitely be available? It is possible that Eddie phoned Jake as soon as he knew what would be happening on Saturday. Remember that it's never easy to tell someone that they are redundant, however temporary their position, especially when they haven't done anything essentially wrong. Eddie has a job to do, and sometimes hard decisions must be taken.

However, I sympathise completely with Jake, it is clear from his posting on the previous thread that the news came as a blow to him. No doubt he was looking forward to playing in such an important match, and will be feeling bitterly disappointed. But we do not know exactly what was said between the two of them - Eddie has not built a reputation as a bad man-manager, has he? You cannot deny that Jake is a relatively inexperienced player and was right on the end of his loan period, and it may be that Eddie didn't quite chose the right words at the key moment (haven't we all, at some time?).

So, to stop me rambling on...

Jake, I will echo the general feelings of the other fans posting here. It's been great having you play for Slough. I hope you will remember the whole of your time with the Rebels, and not just the past few days.

And all the best for your future career. I'm sure you'll do well.

On the evidence so far I stand by what I said. For the F.A. Cup I thought players had to be registered further in advance and therefore Eddie must have known before yesterday. As I said before Eddie has the best interests of the club at heart and has made the decision he feels is right.

The FA rules state that players for the First Round of the Cup had to be registered by midday today. Given that I assume Shaun Allaway has come to us on a non-contract basis it makes a lot of sense to not mention him until after the deadline has passed to make sure he didn't go anywhere else. I'm sure a lot of clubs would have been interested in him had they known he was available.

I'm sad for Jake but unfortunately this can be somethign of a cut-throat business. Allaway appears to be a keeper of some pedigree and could well be an asset for us on the pitch tomorrow.

omigod, have just seen the news....

when is saw the post from a supposed Jake Whincup yesterday with the bitter taste of one who's suitably not impressed with STFC I assumed it to be a piece of pre-match propaganda by a walsall fan (since this is now an unregistered site) to give us the spooks. Having seen the oficial press release I can now see that he really is going and I for one am very sad.

Whilst I'm sure that everyone had their reasons for this departure I can't help but be shocked by the apparent animosity surrounding this... still, the new keeper looks very promising and I wish him all the luck in the world for our clash tomorrow.

As for Jake I wish him the best of luck in his career, no matter what anyone says I was proud to have him as a rebel.

See you with the red cards tomorrow

Seems silly doing this as she is sitting right next to me but agree with charlie and the pair of us will be there from 12-30 handing out red cards, All we need now is for Hodgey, Harris and Daly to be sold tonight and Morrys Scott, Mark Quamina and co to come out of retirement and my shock will be complete! PS what do you reckon the odds are for a matt miller 80th minute overhead kick? If he does it i will kiss his boots (And if you see this Matt- i truly will!)
