Gravesend Reporter

Whilst I applaud the apparant stand now being taken by the Reporter with regards to the campaign to stop Gillingham Fc coming to Gravesham. I feel the question has to be asked as to why it has taken them so long to voice their support of 'The Fleet' and more importantly why, when the news first broke in an editorial credited to the paper's editor, they took the view that Gillingham's possible move to Gravesham would be 'good for the town' and appeared to be supporting the move???

Could it be that because of the amount of readers they were losing due to the sports editer leaving, and the reports getting worse, they suddenly realised they needed to back us.

500 posts and still going strong........ <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon_band222.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/redbanana.gif" alt="" />

Agreed. Especially ironic, given that the gushing front page spread is attributed to our old "friend" Melody Ryall. The biggest volte face since Bill Clinton discovered that what he did with Monica Lewinsky did after all amount to hanky panky.

Still, let's not complain. Possibly now the Club's position is clear & in the public domain, "The Reporter," as a valued associate sponsor, has decided to throw its weight behind the chairman & the board. I suspect that the original support for Scally's planned move came from people desperate for a front page story, who were not up to speed on their own paper's long association with the Fleet & who had not stopped to think what the effect of such a move would be for us.

Good to see today's NLP getting behind us too, both in a Page 2 article & in their editorial.

Maybe they were awoken to the fact that most people who have lived in Gravesend for any length of time were only interested in The Reporter

for the Births, Marriages & Deaths page !! as the amount of local news

contained therein was readily available in the KM or the freebies !

Obviously the previous.....Yes,lets have Gillingham in Gravesham stance proved vastly unpopular, despite the 3 letters !!...and maybe young Melody was told to sell papers or deliver them !! Hence the change of Editorial opinion ??

Or maybe Brian kicked ass and enlightened them, so they realised what side their bread is buttered ??

Anyway....whatever.....it's good to see now !

Onwards & upwards.

Cheers,

Scally still doesnt believe it though - tonights Medway Messenger says he is "pushing on with plans to move the club to Gravesham".

He claims Brian's comments are "premature" and "discussions regarding a joint venture are still at an early stage",

"I'm very surprised because we have ongoing discussions and I think its too early to make decisions because none of us know which way we are going"

Perhaps he doesnt know which way he's going - Brian on the other hand seems to have made his decision already.

Mr Scally is adamant that a groundsharing idea would work. He added "what we proposed would be a huge benefit to Kent, to themselves and to us" - who's he kiddng ??

It is good at last to see the Reporter coming up on Fleet's side, however as a local rag it does not reflect the Town at all.

As for Paul Scally he gave an interview on RK on Wednesday saying the same, he has for some reason got this view that it will work with Fleet, i will be at Gills on Saturday and nobody will mention this move.

Again not a word in the Medway News.

It seems that the Scally has lost all support for his new ground.

firstly, Fleet fans were against it.

Secondly Brian and the board decide to go it alone.

Then the Reporter comes onside.

then the NLP.

Then Gravesham Council have come out on our side.

Medway council have always wanted the new ground in Medway.

Gillingham fans want Gillingham to stay in the Medway towns.

So do Dartford fans.

So do Charlton fans.

It was in the Medway Messenger today that the Scally is still in dispute with the Independant Supporters club.

Who isn't against him?

Even his wife left him!

Why does the Scally think he is the spokesperson for Kentish football.

Neither the Gills nor the Fleet want to amass huge debts that can never be repaid.

Nor do we want to play in front of 80% empty seats at an enormous stadium.

It is about time the Scally took a reality check, took a hard look around to realise quite how unpopular his is and how isolated he is becoming.

Also, I see Melody, as in previous editorials on the Fleet, has again displayed a distinct lack of football knowledge. To quote from her article, 'it is obvious the Fleet has outgrown its current site at Stonebridge Road.'

That's funny, I could have sworn there weren't 4100 fans crammed into the Stadio del Stonebridgio for the Carlisle game, with many more locked outside... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
