Stirring Words

As I was queueing for my.... no, forget that bit. Some excellent coverage in the Observer today, whole of the back page devoted to the Mighty Saints, a full-page interview with the new supremo inside and the usual match reports and previews etc, photos of the duo in front of webbo's advertising hoarding thingy.

Must say I found myself agreeing with much of what he (Cashie) had to say, sounds as though some re-structuring is on the cards if funds allow.

Does the article say if that would be alterations to the playing staff or changes to the structure of the club.

Seems to me that the current squad is more than adequate (on paper, and I know the game is not played on paper ....yawn!!!) so I hope it is the latter (for obvious reasons)

Hi Rob.

Yes, I was rivetted. Great coverage. The chap speaks very well, and not one football cliche anywhere in the two pages. Hertsblue is going to struggle with the managers programme notes. A bright new dawn.

Fantastic media wall for the photographs.

Roll on Saturday.

[i particularly liked the quote at the bottom of the third column on the inside page "But the first thing we have to do is get the advertising boards on Hatfield Road updated. How difficult can that be?". No, not really. I made that up.]

Hi CT.

Stuart says something about wanting to be involved at all levels and in all respects of the club. He refers to the washing of the shirts and the width of the pitch, by way of example.

He talks in somewhat vague terms about the Reserves and the Yoof and he will address those matters once we have the first team on track.

He talks about playing attacking football. The one worrying note was that he says something about not believing in 'systems'. Don't worry. I'll have a word and explain the principles behind 4-4-2.

sadly Laz i think he's leaving the ad boards to the more important people

Laz, Laz, Laz.

It's the role of the Executive to determine and direct strategy, not to implement it.

That said, if the determined and directed strategy is not being implemented, it is for the Executive to take the necessary remedial action.

Why? What's your reasoning?

We are in a total mess at the moment but I've got a gut feeling that the new management team are really going to turn this around. Just don't expect it to happen immediately, CS. That wouldn't be very fair, would it?

Hmmnnn.

I don't know anything about football, but.

Quite rightly, the local press concentrated on Stuart Cash last week and, certainly, I liked what I heard [/read]. No cliches. He came across very well and they speak very highly of him at Aldershot. He sounds like just the sort of guy we need.

From what I've read, It seems that he has brought in his number 2 himself and he must know what he's doing there.

As far as the 1st team is concerned, I don't believe that 'major surgery' is required. A couple of signings are needed, for sure, but the bulk of that team, under the right management, can get out of the relegation zone fairly quickly, in my view. I hope that Stuart Cash gets the support of the so-called senior players and we can get away from the wrong end of the table fast.

Hi Canary Saint. On Saturday, I thought that, firstly, Weymouth were one of the best sides that we have faced so far this season by a margin, and secondly, that was one of our worst displays from recent weeks when, in my view, we have been playing some good football. No reason to panic. From the managers notes in the matchday programme, he left Miguel de Souza to 'pick the best side' and he wanted to watch. That's sound reasoning.

You say that we are in a 'total mess', Woody. I'm not sure what you mean there, but the new manager will be concentrating on the 1st Team initially before turning his attention to the position of the Reserves and The Yoof. I imagine that Gibbo has said very little so far to the new chaps concerning his views of those issues. That will be an interesting series of conversations, no doubt.

'Off the pitch' matters is/are a horse of a very different colour. It will be some while before Stuart and Colin 'get' that side of things. I've been watching it for a while and I still don't get it. Most of the people that I speak to don't get it either.
