Alan W , not much correct I'm afraid !

M Le T comes from Guernsey but has a mate who now coaches Eastleigh who he has volunteered to play for a few times next season .

I did advise of his availability on this forum a few weeks ago !!

He is being paid nothing as he loves the beautiful game .

On this theme , in the programme for his recent testamonial he was interviewed by a London based national newspaper journalist .

The question was asked about how much was he paid at the height of his career .

M Le T threw the question back at said journalist , asking how much he ( journalist ) thought he ( M Le T ) was paid .

'Well say £15 000 a week , but as its Saints , £10 000 '

The answer Le T gave , which amazed everyone down here , was £4000 a week .

Those who gave him stick for keeping his testamonial money when at the same time Niall Quinn gave his to charity soon backed down as NQ got considerably more basic and signing on fees when moving between clubs .

And that folks , is why M Le T is a legend down here .

But we've got our own legend - Jacko .

The man has scored possible the greatest goals in the history of premiership, which one do you think is the best? when he lobbed flowers from 40 yards sticks in my mind!!!

My favourite one ( which I saw ) was when he flicked the ball past one Newcastle defender and then another , all in the air and volleyed the ball from the edge of the area .

I was also at The Dell for the last game when he scored a volley on the turn from the edge of the box against Arsenal . ( What is the point of Arsenal ) .

It was an unbelievable moment as he'd been injured for ages and came off the bench for a last -time-at -The Dell outing .

There were only about three minutes left but the ground went ballistic for about half an hour afterwards .

In fact, it's like Gazza's goal in Euro 96 against Scotland, only the fact that the mighty Le Tiss flicked the ball over two defenders, not one, makes it twice as good.

A great player who was criminally overlooked for England on many occasions, and just because he played for a 'weak' side.

A wonderful player who will be sadly missed from an age in which corporate power has swamped the game. Take yesterday's example when David O'Leary was sacked by Leeds United. The official club website announced that, rather than leaving the club, Mr. O'Leary had left the 'company'.

What a terrible state the game is in, and not a shred of blame deserves to be attached to the mighty Le Tiss.

'What a terrible state the game is in', indeed! In fact thats how I got into NL in the first place, my first game was Fleet v Dag & Red in Dec 98, won 2-0, and I've not looked back since! I read somewhere that Matt was playing on a non contract basis, presumably for free, and he would certainly pull in the crowds, as someone else mentioned his goal at Blackburn past Tim Flowers is the one I remember. I can't help but wonder how many England caps he'd have got if he'd moved to a big club, was he unambitious or was he just happy where he was? I'd say the latter, not far from his Guernsey roots and not intrested in chasing megabucks, a rarity in todays game.

A total Legend in his own right!. If you fancy seeing some superb 'Le Tiss!' Footwork. Then goto your local HMV and Order a DVD called 250 of the Greatest Goals in the Premiership. There is some quality play by the man in this aswell as the likes of many other players from 93 to 2000.
