So who will be in the Conference this season

Recommended Posts

According to the Non-League Paper over recent weeks, Halifax have one, yes one player on their books and are so deep in debt that they couldn't afford to play League football next season.

If Boston do get kicked out of League football no one is sure, as yet as to which level they'll play. The offences took place while they were in the Conference, but they have now officially been accepted into the League. They may start the season in Div. 3 with minus points or be sent back down to the Conference. In which case Dagenham plan to apply for the vacant promotion spot as they were second, and are prepared to take the FA to court to gain it.

The Football League set a precedent a few years ago when they denied Swindon promotion, for financial irregularities. Therefore, if Boston are found guilty and the same punishment is followed, Boston won't go up. Hlaifax are struggling to compete in the Conference next year, so you can't see them keeping their league place and theres nothing in the rule books to justify the Daggers going up instead.

So Wobbly says, no one gets promotion for last season , drop Boston to the Unibond and kick Halifax out all together..

Then next season have 3 up from the conference , with only 2 down from the League, and then only relegate the bottom Conference club but still promote the 3 feeder leage champions.

Hopefully that should keep us safe next year !!

I somehow doubt that Boston will be demoted back out of the Football League - given the long running saga with Chesterfield last season, and the shortage of time to the start of the new season, a decision to demote them back to the Conference would, no doubt, face a long legal challenge, and could the FA stand the cost of this were they to lose the case at the end ??

I know that they could potentially face a law suit from Dagenham and/or Halifax if they dont take action against Boston, but I still think that a points deduction for the start of the new Season, along with a heavy fine, is probably the most likely outcome.

In that case John I think its safe to assume that we'll play Dag & Red and Halifax next season, though I'm no better as a tipster.

The only satisfactory outcome will be for this whole business to be resolved very soon, if I recall the Swindon affair was, and if Boston are found guilty, and its hard to believe there's no smoke without fire, they will have won the conference by cheating and surely D&R must go up instead. I have friends in Boston and they say morale amongst fans is very low, and you have to feel sorry for them, and the general feeling is that if the club are promoted they'll be straight back down the following year, especially if points are deducted, that might be poetic justice but it won't make D&R feel any better.
