Every club has ups and downs in their crowd size. We are currently on a small down.

Our crowds have pretty much grown since we were in the Ryman (and there isn't a Ryman 3rd, so we're hardly likely to go into it are we?). We were getting around 800-900 in the Ryman years and reached a peak season average in 2001/02 that was still below 2000 : Less than 2.5 times our lowest season average.

Yours have gone up from what, a couple of hundred at most to over a thousand in a very short space of time.

These people aren't all new football fans - many of them will have previously supported other clubs, be that West Ham, Leyton Orient or any other club. Quite a few may well be ex-Daggers who went to watch success at Hornchurch, especially in the last couple of seasons when we haven't been doing quite so well.

So are these people going to continue to watch your Under 19s (or whoever) if they are not winning so regularly? I very much doubt it. They are not going to decide "Oh well, it was fun while it lasted - let's go watch our reserves lose 4-0 on Saturday - after all, last week's 6-0 drubbing was so enjoyable!" They will, in the main, return to whence they came and watch West Ham, Orient and even the Daggers. Sure, some will hang around and support Hornchurch, I just doubt it will be that many.

As for the increased crowds for the FA Cup - They are generally glory hunters, just as all clubs have them when they have a big match. I'm quite certain that a great many of the extra thousands at the Charlton and Ipswich games etc have been recently attending Hornchurch matches.

You have simply missed my point - The genuine fans are not those glory hunters that attach themselves to any successful side - they are the ones who support a team through thick and thin - the ones who will now be rolling up their sleeves and seeing what they can do to help Hornchurch Football Club survive and, with luck, thrive in the future.

The question is - will you be one of them?

For a start, I was talking about post-merger so your points do not apply.

Yes, I well remember the days of watching Dagenham FC in the 1980s.

Having been supporting Dagenham (and then Dagenham & Redbridge) since the '70s, I would do.

Not so much of the "boy" bit either thanks - I'm older than you! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I am, as I have repeatedly said, very very sorry for the genuine Urchins amongst you. You didn't deserve to have your club hijacked and then potentially destroyed like that. The only people I have an issue with are the loudmouthed idiots who frequented the Daggers board posting inane drivel.

As for Unclued Urchin - I have my own opinions on him which I shall keep to myself. Suffice to say that the man has lied to everyone - All the talk of the money being in a trust and that the future of the club was secure turned out to be totally untrue. That, to me, suggests that either he is the lowest sort of scumbag going or, more likely, that he isn't who he's made himself out to be.

why is it that the only things people winge about are the fact that somewhere along the line we was getting small crowds, who gets big crowds in the ryman 2nd or 3rd,afc wimbledon thats it,and thats because of their situation, and aldershot, both former league clubs(afc wimbledon may be different but you get my drift),as a regular for many years i have seen fans come and go as do many other clubs,i have seen dagenham fans in my area go dagenham then west ham,as have hornchurch fans,it is easy for dagenham to critisize us but dagenham is a bigger area than hornchurch so could probably attract bigger gates, but the fact is that many people over the years have followed hornchurch from near or a far,we are proud of our club like we are our town(hornchurch or upminster)

the simple fact of football is that while your club is languishing in mid table obscurity in the ryman 3rd you are not going to get the crowds but as you progress through the league these numbers will increase, simple economics

BEST REGARDS

I'm not disupting that in the least.

It's just quite hard to find sympathy with some of your supporters who have been going on and on about how Hornchurch would overtake us and how they were getting all our best players etc.

The way the club was run was never going to be sustainable and I really hope that something is done by the FA to prevent this sort of thing happening again (although I won't hold my breath!).

Good luck in finding some way of progressing without the bankrolling - With a bit of luck you won't go into freefall and will be able to remain at a reasonably high level.

No abuse at all. You were the one posting a complete load of lies about the Club's expenditure being sustainable - I merely pointed out that it WOULD go pear shaped.

You refused to accept that it wasn't that I wanted it to. You also refused to accept that I wished no ill on Hornchurch. You refused to accept that ANYONE with a braincell KNEW that it would all end in tears.

Even though I was proved right, I take absolutely no pleasure in the demise of Hornchurch FC.

Again, you fail to understand this.

I don't know why you lack even an ounce of humility - you might find that it helps.
