Preview Walton & Hersham vs MARGATE – 06/11/04

Margate return to Surrey for the second time in as many weeks to take on Walton & Hersham in this season’s FA Trophy First Round on Saturday 6th November.

 

Following the mid-week Carthium Cup win over Welling, Margate have now won twice in succession for just the second time this season, and will be confident - if wary - going into this FA Trophy fixture. Gate’s current league form is good – despite the recent disappointing defeat at Sutton. With three wins, two defeats and a draw, Margate are currently ranked 5th in the Nationwide South form table.

 

On the injury front, both Pat Gradley and Bill Edwards returned to duty for the Welling game, although Edwards remained on the bench. Mark Green remains sidelined with a broken ankle and Greg Oates remains doubtful for the trip to Walton & Hersham.

 

Second only to AFC Wimbledon in the Ryman First Division, Walton & Hersham are enjoying a good season allbeit in what looks to be an “average” division (with the exception of the Dons). At home so far this season, the Swans have conceded just four goals in eight league games, so defensively look strong. But at the other end of the pitch they look to struggle to score at home - having only scored nine.

 

Third in the current Ryman Division One form table, Walton have taken 12 from a possible 18 points with four wins and two defeats. Players in goal-scoring form include Reggie Savage and Carl Gibbs. Potentially worrying for Margate is Savage’s habit of scoring in cup games – four of his five to date coming in the cup competitions.
