What's Happening At Hornchurch?

Recommended Posts

A normally reliable source has just told me the same but in greater detail.....but lets wait and see before we add fuel to the fire.

Shame if true as the game at their place is a special day for me and I was quite looking forward to the trip for a drink or two with friends .... so I hope this doesn't overshadow the main event

From www.confguide.com :

"Carthium Ltd, sponsors of the Carthium Cup and several football clubs, this week ceased trading.

The company ceased trading at the end of business on Tuesday. One definite football-related casualty is Hornchurch FC, currently top of the Conference South. The club may still continue in some form, we understand, but all current playing staff have been released and are available free to other clubs.

A statement from the Conference regarding the Carthium Cup is expected shortly."

Mark Graham's still there, isn't he?

Statement from the Hornchurch F.C. Press Officer

04.11.04 05.07PM

Thursday 4th November 2004

Late last evening, the chairman Gary Calder and manager Garry Hill were informed that there would no longer be the funds available to sustain Hornchurch FC.

Players and staff were issued wage cheques on Tuesday, but these were all stopped.

Gary Calder said, "The party is over and the rollercoaster ride has come to an end. The club will continue playing football and will compete in the FA Trophy and the FA Cup. We are absolutely devastated".

Manager Garry Hill said "I feel the same as each and every person connected with this football club. I am empty inside. The league table doesn't lie, we all thought that we could take the club to the next level. After all it's November and we've only lost one league game. Everyone connected with club, the staff and players have worked hard and we need the supporters to rally round."

Coach Kevin Hales said "It's not just the players and staff, it's their families as well. It's been a really traumatic day and we need 24 hours to clear our heads. Who knows what might happen, but there might be someone who will come forward and ask to take control of the club. We will be taking advice from everybody and we will see which way the ship steers next"

At the present time, Garry Hill remains the manager of Hornchurch FC.

This is pretty unbelievable. When Laz and Zeal texted me regarding this I honestly thought it was a wind up.

I spoke to Maladroit tonight and he said he was down the club earlier this evening and it seemed a real mess. There was some rumour about Uncle fcking off to Antigua but he was on the forums earlier this evening so that can't be true.

I honestly can't see how they'll get a team together for Saturday against Arlesey. From what I've heard this has been going on for weeks with the players not being paid.

I'll probably pop down next Tuesday for the Dorchester game if there is a club still running. I imagine it will be pretty emotional.
