Best Slough Player Ever...

Recommended Posts

Having a convo with a mate and arguing about who was best slough player ever, lets have your opinions... I only date back to '91 but i would have to say my top 5 would be 1) Mark Foran 2) Ian Hazel 3) Mark Fiore 4) Ian Hodges 5)Veli Hakki

What do you reckon? (why do i think Ryan Spencer's name may appear in this list......)

And the worst:----?

First game was in '88 so I would say that some of the chief contenders would be (in no particular order):

1) Steve Thompson

2) Mark "Billy" Fiore

3) Gary McGinnis

4) Mark West

5) Lloyd Owusu

6) Veli Hakki

7) Ian Hodges

As for the worst player a straight fight between three hugely underachieving strikers:

David Adekola, Paul Coombs and Dodgy Deji Davies.

I'm still getting over the shock of Marcus being an English teacher - I run a theatre these days!

With regards players it's gotta be Steve Thompson. I always liked Paul McKinnon as well, Darren Anderson, Trevor Bunting and Georgie Friel. For sheer comedy value you have to have Tony Dell! Am I right in remembering Sean Lahiff almost scoring from a goal kick?

indescribably essential

What a great turn of phrase that is <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />! Doubt we can fit it into a song though.

Anyone who was stood near me at Chelmsford will know I am a big fan of Glen and I wholeheartedly agreed with Eddie's decision to give him the young player of the year award last season. His work rate and goal contribution is excellent and I think he has great potential to go on and become a Slough legend and I think succeed at a higher level.

Couple more good seasons with Slough and he would make my list.

As for Les Briely - how could I fail to mention to him - in the worst ever list. He ran Steve Browne close.

Been watching (properly ie. not sitting there eating and reading magazines while my grandad and uncle were watching) since about 1994. My favourites include Brian Lee, Andy Sayer, Mark Fiore, Cliff Hercules, Terry Angus, Danny Bolt, Gary Abbott, Mark West, Steve Daly, Ian Hodges and some bloke called Spencer. Difficult to judge as I remember some better than others due to how recent they are but I can't think of many defenders I've ever seen at Conference level better than Terry Angus, he was a rock!
