Waterside Farm Canvey FC

There are a lot of rumours flying around Canvey currently regarding plans to close Waterside Farm Sports Centre. A petition has now started up protesting against any closure plans.

Much of the rumours centre on Canvey FC moving to Waterside and the centre being closed to make way for the new ground and facilities. Can the club come out and categorically state that moving to Waterside will not adversely affect the current sports centre in any way. The rumours currently going round will not do anthing to improve attendance at the club from floating support living on the island.

Dont think its just coincidence that there has been no investment recently, generating a look of shabbiness, along with closing the bar with misinformation on it making losses.

Also fees have gone up for the various clubs using the centre, resulting in a number leaving recently to different sites. Seems a little bit of a co-incidence.

If closure was to go ahead there is going to be a lot of negative publicity and protests against the club

protests from who?.. the place is rapidly becoming a craphole.. seems like the ideal time to knock the thing down n build a nice shiny new one with a football stadium next to it.. i cant say im personally bothered to be honest as i dont live on the island anymore but the nearer the canvey ground is to benfleet station the better for me

I worked at waterside 4 years ago and even back then all of the staff were told to prepare for the center shutting down due to lack of customers and necessary repairs to the building that couldn’t be afforded.

Waterside is an essential part of the island (although grossly under used). with Runnymede and the virgin gym waterside radically needs to improve, and that is something the council haven't been willing to do. Maybe the input of a football ground (as far as Im aware it will not affect the sports center at all) is what they need to keep the center going.

If waterside closes it is because it has been closing for many years now and nothing to do with the possibility of a much needed football ground.

Probably going to be a little bit of S*** stirring that will happen over this - if it goes ahead.

The new ground, if it's near to the running track will not effect any local residents apart from traffic volume on nearby approach roads - there isn't anyone local. What happens with the Park Lane area will possibly attract petitions etc. and thats more residential and is therefore understandable.

It would be a big disaster if they shut Waterside without a local alternative - there's bugger all facilities on the island now for the youngsters - assuming they bother their [****!!****] to use the centre.

However, it would be great if the club were able to merge the ground with better sporting facilities - not a running track round the inside of the ground though!

If Waterside was removed and the club were able to offer facilities simlar to Virgin and use any money to support the club and new facilities commercially then its return of investment to the Island could be better justified. Whats on offer may not be as great as it is at the moment - may lose the swimming pool for example.

Anyway its all pie in the sky........

So what could waterside farm specialise in on the sports side?

Whats that sport they do up on the fens - swimming along mud filled channels or pole vaulting over the ditches with only a two foot stick.

Perhaps with all those useful dykes we have we could convert Waterside to a national Mecca for all forms of extreme Bog sports and ditch jumping........ <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> sorry
