Downloading Music

Okay, YB941 EFM ~soul~ has finally dragged himself into the 21st Century, and has got the internet at home.

 

Now, I buy a lot of CD singles, which I only play once (to put on chronological compilations) and then file in my ever-increasing CD cabinets. Space has become a bit of a problem.

 

Which are the best downloading websites for downloading singles?? (not interested in albums as I'll always want to buy the hard copy in shops!)

 

How cheap is it to download just one track??

i use www.bearshare.com I'd say its better than kazaa

Right (Oh and hello long time no see!)

 

There are 2 different types of download site, Fileshare and Paid download.

 

1. Fileshare sites, like the one Dan above mentions, are to some, not considered legal, because the artist does not get anything in the way of royalties. Generally you get a wide selection of stupp, but it's more prone to pop-ups and annoying internet software being left on your PC.

 

2. Pay Sites like iTunes, HMV, MSN Music club. I generally like using MSN music club, 69p per track and very smooth download. iTunes looks snazzy but if you use Windows Media Player I promise you it's not worth the bother! the quality of the music on these is a little more assured too.

 

You will do a lot better going with broadband too, or you're going to be waiting a long time.

soulseek is quite good for the more obscure tracks getting round to replacing the vinyl slowly

Soulseek has the biggest range of music - both old & new & most people on there have the files nicely arranged for easy viewing - with chatrooms and other stuff it was always my preferred choice.

 

Now the novelty has worn off, I am back to buying my music again - the joys of finding rare copies of albums on ebay is far more fun than knowing that you could have anything for free - kid in a sweet shop syndrome - great at first but overdose on the sweets & you'll soon get sick of them.
