A short quiz question for Tuesday.

The following quote is taken from the Chairman's matchday programme notes from a recent match:

"....if this puts even fifty potential spectators off coming to a game then this is worth £12,000 a year to the club."

Here's the question: What is the 'this' to which the Chairman is referring? Is it:

a]. The reporting of a match in the local press and the NLP without 'positive spin', or,

b]. The advertising boards on Hatfield Road referring to last Saturday's home game against Basingstoke Town as the next fixture rather than tonight's home match against Grays Athletic?

Answers on a postcard etc.

I think the 50 represent a cross section disuaded from coming by: EFM behaviour, negative press reports but most importantly any advertising for the game.

How long does it take to change those boards over? We have one full-time employee who could do it and countless freeloaders.

Thinking about it, strictly speaking, one, let alone 50, cannot be "put off" coming to a game if one does not know that it's actually taking place.

So it must be a].

Pedantic? Moi?

Sunday in Clarence Park. Families taking advantage of the Autumn sunshine, the leaves turning and Mother Nature demonstrating the full panoply of colour in her pallet. Others, attracted by the Thameslink money saving offers. Daddy, Mummy little Jimmy and baby Suzy catching the 10.35 fast train to sample the delights of the great metropolis of London.

There must have been 20,000 people walking past those advertising boards on Sunday. 50? Pshaw!! If there had been reference to the visit of Mighty Grays Athletic tonight, we would have been looking at a gate of over 15,000. Easily. Make allowance for the cr@p press reports and and that an attendance of 14,950.

A further 10,000 will have seen it Monday morning, the same on the way home in the evening, and those same people will have gone to work today, oblivious to the Grays match.

See you at the ground later this evening! I don't think I'll be in the bar as there is only so much warm Cobra one can drink.
