midfield strengthening

I wonder if the budget stretches to strenghthening by one the midfield.

As soon as gradley injured it has weakened it considerably, and JK is bound to get sent off soon.

 

As Redbridge are on a bit of a clearout(marginally worse off than the Gate!),i wonder

 

whether Greg Lincoln -ex northampton - would

 

like to return having made one previous gate appearance in 2002/3.

 

imo he is also a good player at this level,and can add a bit of extra bite to midfield

Without going mad, and with Oates due to return soon i guess (and green before Xmas) you do just wonder whether the Gate could push the boat out a bit and by maybe one midfield player, and one defender, strenghthen the squad sufficiently to make a bit of a push for a top 5 spot.

We are bound to get other suspensions /injuries and there is certainly one forward too many in the current squad.

 

Its all a bit squashed in mid-table, and we are only four points off relegation spot, yet only 8 off top 5.

 

Whilst the gate have been nothing special, it seems that excepting Hornchurch and Grays, nor is anyone else.

 

It seems that winning games depends on your luck in that game.e.g -yesterday from reports we were possibly lucky, yet equally could have stole the points at sutton.We could also have grabbed points in quite a few other games(but were lucky to win at Carlshalton early in season).

 

Maybe two more decent players would give us a side in Hornchurch/ grays quality where we are deseved winners on quality, and not just deciding matches depending on how luck goes in any particular game.

well we definatly need some midfield depth and some cover for our wingbacks but until we have some cash injected in to the team we got nowt.

ck told us at the game oates was 2-3 weeks could be longer if he requires minor surgery on his injury.

For me then, Edwards must play at right back in a defensive role with benevides in front of him to give cover and pace, but also allow Benevides to give a bit to the attack aswell.

 

Keep it simple-defenders defend and midfielders do their bit in the middle of the park.

 

At this level -indeed any level beow premiership and coca cola league or whatever its called, players do not have theability to be wing baks-its simply asking too much of them and players end up doing both jobs poorly.

true perhaps that was being a bit over ambitous on the players front.
And i quite agree with u on the fact playing with wingbacks they must be your to best players as is the case with oates & green imho who i belive we are very lucky to have and are imposible to replace at this level.
i cant see CK switching to a flat back four wich is a shame as i think u have a very good idear on who should play in that system, but CK knows his players best i guess and must have a valid reason for not playing the same or simlar lineup/formation

I see Gravesend have released Romauld who i believe is a decent defender with a bit of pace.

 

If Gate were to sign someone like him ,then think with Smith and Barnett, defence would be up to strength.

 

Maybe he could come on non contract to keep fit and minimally cover while Oates and Green get fit

For last 3 seasons we have always been1/2 decent midfield players short of a decent side.

 

Its just so frustrating, as even after a very poor performance today, you still think this could yet be a decent side if we could get a quality midfield player and cut out the comedy defending

Definately not.

 

I only read things on websites and follow conference footbal in general( i go to the odd conference game apart from Margate)-just hope CK has seen him play, but think he is decent player.

That may just be the defence sorted.

 

Now can we do something about the midfield please Chris ,we are all pretty depressed after two useless cup performances, but get a midfield player in who has some pedigree and you could yet get a top 5 spot.

i when oates and green are back i feel we can afford to go to 4-4-2 again, if che can score 9 playing 5-3-2 i feel he'll be even more prolific with wingers feeding him

And push benevides into midfield. He just cannot stay back and always wants to venture upfront. Plays well doing that, though the 2nd half today he wasn't in the game at all.

Agree Benevides would add something to wide midfield , and thats good , but to my mind we desperately need a straightforward quality central midfield player along the lines ogf Saunders,Mckimm,etc.

A midfielder who plays up and down the centre of the pitch.Plays simple easy balle , but moves the ball around.

 

Benevides can provide variety and surprise down right flank, and i think Gradley is a reasonable defensive midfield player-helps break attacks up.

JK sometimes good, sometimes avareage, sometimes like today the red mist sets in .We need someone else to support JK in the centre of midfield who can pass the bal about a bit
