Preview MARGATE vs Weston-super-Mare 30/10/04

For the first time in three weeks, Margate welcomes visitors to Homelands in the shape of Weston-super-Mare. Both of these sides had their weekend fixtures postponed: Margate away to Basingstoke, Weston at home to Hayes. Indeed Weston’s midweek game was also a victim of the weather, while Margate lost 0-2 at Sutton.

Looking at the records for both sides, you would be forgiven for expecting goals in this game at Homelands. Margate have so far conceded at a rate of two goals a game at home – although that does include the 0-6 defeat to Grays. Weston meanwhile, have conceded at over two goals a game away from home. So this match could represent an opportunity for either side to replace their less than prolific form in front of their opponents goal! Here’s hoping that it’s Margate that add to their “goals for” tally.

On current form, the Seagulls have accumulated two more points than their hosts. Two wins, three draws and a defeat – including a notable victory over Grays – have yielded nine points. For Margate, two wins, a draw and three defeats in the last six games has been the story of the season so far.

Chris Kinnear still has injury problems with Greg Oates, Bill Edwards and Pat Gradley all on the doubtful list, while Adrian Clarke may be forced to play on with his troublesome back problem. The central defensive three looked fairly solid at Sutton despite the defeat so it could be in midfield / attack that the manager looks to change.

One to watch for Weston-super-Mare could be Marc Mc Gregor. The Seagulls’ top scorer, Mc Gregor moved from Forest Green to Nuneaton in a £35,000 deal in the Nationwide Conference, but joined Weston on a permanent basis after the second of his two spells on loan. He also has Football League experience with Notts County and Oxford United.

Apologies, wrong midweek fixture taken as postponed.
