Hornchurch to put City bottom?

I knew it would, Webbo. Get to you, that is.

I must say that it's beginning to get to me, too. My new-found pre-season philosophy ["It's going to be very, very tough this season, on and off the pitch, but I have come to terms with it so it's all right"] is taking a pounding.

The team that was selected on Saturday had a lot of quality, they worked hard and their level of committment could not be faulted. I haven't been able to say that for that many games over the past couple of seasons. And still we were beaten 4-1, a score-line that flattered the home side.

I have said on here over the past few weeks that Saints fans have to try to find steps towards unity. I didn't see much sign of that on Saturday, either. Division on the terraces appears to be widening. Perhaps I've got it all wrong. Perhaps I should do what 500 people have done over the past 3 seasons. Or perhaps I should just watch it all die.

A quick word about the Hornchurch game. On the one hand, I believe that people should do what they want to do. Gibbo has said that he wont be going to Bridge Avenue next month and that's up to him. He appears to have 'had words' with Gary Calder and he has made his feelings clear in the local press. I wouldn't have done it that way, but that's entirely up to him.

Everyone else should do what they want to do, but, on the other hand, I was astonished to hear a rumour on Saturday that a small group of City fans are to boycott the game too. How is that supporting the team?

The facts of the events leading to the Heybridge fiasco have not been made public and they are unlikely to. According to the F.A., we played an inelligible player. Several Hornchurch players were out on loan at other clubs for that week-end. They weren't inelligible as 'procedures' had been followed by the clubs concerned, clearly.

We're out. That's it. Move on. Up the Saints.

As a protest against Calder and Hornchurch? That is simply pathetic.

I hope the two girls who had a go at me and the rest of EFM for "not getting behind the team" at Eastbourne are not part of this group, as that would be wholly hypocritical.

Do you honestly believe we'd have been doing well in the Isthmian, Webbo?

I've heard this argument before and it's piffle.

We'd be bottom four in that too. There seems very little difference. As I said in a previous thread, I think the likes of Yeading, Chesham and Billericay would thrash us.

I fear I will be proved right when we play Eastleigh in ten days.

As they say, On paper, this is not a bad side at all. Capleton is a quality keeper who played at Grays who finished 2nd or 3rd last season, Hooper was at Margate and made the Conference Team of the Season last term, Cousins was ever present in the Hendon side which finished 3rd of 4th. Walshe and Abbey came from Gravesend and are highly rated by their fans. We know what Parker is capable of. Seeby and Martin show a lot of promise.

We are not far short, if at all, of a side which should be holding its own in this League let alone the Isthmian.

But it aint happening. I'm sick of losing. It has to turn soon for Heaven's sake, but I'm not sure that we'll see it at 'Stoke, Grays or the Urchins.

I've convinced myself. I'll go for a point on the road tonight.
