According to the essex f.a. this annual senior rep game against the army national team on tuesday 9th november at tilbury f.c,players can only be selected from clubs who are affilated to the essex county football association,sadly this means that players from club such as enfield and sawbridgeworth cannot be selected.

Our view as a club is that we are happy that our players (3) have been selected. We feel it is an honour, (however you may view it) to have players picked for a rep side and the players should be honoured too, no matter what level.

 

Some players are lucky enough at times to be picked for their club side let alone rep level!

As i said no enfield players can be selected to play for the essex f.a due to their club not being affilated to the essex county football association,that also applys to sawbridgeworth.

I don't know, but Lee Sontag, John Hickman and Billy Holland have been asked from the Aboott's. We also had a game that night but as 2 or more selected we can call it off...which of course we have.

So as these games haven't had any importance for about 100 years, is there any point in having them?, it's not like they're trial matches for the England Semi-Pro Team.

I wonder if you would have the same opinion regarding essex f.a representive football if you were one of the players that has played for the county or is going to be picked to represent the essex f.a. at tilbury on tuesday 9th november against the army,somehow i dont think so.?

I have the same opinion about all friendlies, a waste of time & effort. What do the players gain from it?, there's no trophy at stake is there?.

It's just an excuse for a County FA to have a beano, if it was anything like a serious rep game it would be held somewhere like Southend Utd or one of the senior Essex Non-League grounds such as Dagenham.

It is a serious game, this annual fixture is played for the SPALL TROPHY which is a very nice trophy, essex have won this fixture the last 2 seasons dont forget this game is broadcast all over the world to all the army bases and camps all over the world also their players come from bases all over the world,and you say its only a friendly.

jesus numbnut you wanna chill out i mean the SPALL TROPHY!!! Its a load of old tosh if you ask me and without the players from the town and sawbo it will be a poor team anyways.
