Ive heard through the essex grapevine that the manager Darran George has been told that he cant use any players fron either Enfield Town or Sawbridgeworth on tuesday 9th november at Tilbury f.c, due to those clubs not being affiliated to the essex f.a.What are other peoples view on this considering players from those 2 clubs were involved in last years fixture.

...At the end it is only Senior football.

Everyone is flattered when they are asked to represent their county and I for one would be irritated if my club stopped me playing. Enfield Town supporters seem to constantly talk like they are Arsenal - you are just the same as the rest of us - playing average football in an average league.......

I don't want to dig out the supporters too much but to say that "It isn't like they are playing for their country" is daft. Do you expect that to happen then?

Well in some cases being selected for the LD England team is a great honour for the player and his respective club. Just ask the Manor and ETFC. Reading some old threads, they were very proud that their boys pulled on the England shirt in the World Cup and Euro tournaments.

I would say in ALL cases it is an honour but that is not the point I am making Foxy, as you well know. My point is that players want to play representative football and should not be precluded from doing so - not all of use can or will represent our country at ANY level, LD or other.

Anyway, shouldn't you be on the Ryman 2 board?...........

(Only joking Foxy)

Funny that Arkwright,

Felt sure I saw some team called Middlesex beating the less than mighty Essex at cricket last season.

Beaten by a team that doesn't exist.... that is a poor result!

I would have thought that any player asked to represent the county would feel quite honoured, after all it must mean that who ever is scouting has seen something about their game that stands out from the rest. I know I'd feel proud to be picked :

Quite so, oh anon one. Though most of the Middx team were of course born & raised oversea's & not in the old county of Middx.
So they are hardly representitive of your ex-county.

Certainly, it's an Essex County FA Rep team, therefore only players from Essex should be allowed to play, if it was an Essex Senior League Rep team then any player from the league should be eligible.

Seems reasonable, anyway is this just a friendly or part of a cup for County Rep Teams?.

It will depend on the competetion rules. From the name of the thing I presume they state that the teams must comprise players drawn from clubs registered with the County FA in question. In principle you could have a tournament for teams residing or born in a given county but tha would be difficult to administer. You would have to check every player's birth certificate or ask for two recent utility bills, whereas all players are already registered with the club of a given county.

It could get difficult if a club is registered with a county but has an affiliation to a second county, which is permissible. I believe old Enfield were with Middlesex but affiliated to London (hence playing in both County Cups).

Personlly, I am proud when a player for one of my teams (Enfield Town and Spurs) is picked for a my national team (ie England be it LD, non-league or the national first 11). However, I really am not bothered about any regional representation sides although I could be persuaded if it was Middlesex. In the same way, the fact that Kanoute plays for Mali, Leane for the Republic of Ireland means nothing to me. I want to see them play for their club sides and not risk an injury in a match that I do not care about. Essex means nothing to me regionally the same way that Ireland means nothing to me nationally.
