Manager's Record

Recommended Posts

I am reliably informed this morning that, despite having managed eight more league games that his predecessor, Steve Castle is still 13 points behind the total Cookie accumulated.

Just so long as we're "in a better position now than we were this time last season".

I've heard that he's managed three bookings in three games. That's not a bad effort so he could be suspended by the end of the week at that rate.

He's also currently serving a five game touchline ban for his comments at Havant and at Eastbourne, yet when substituted went and sat on the bench.

The reserve team statistics for the start of the season make interesting reading too. We've won just one of six games under SC, a stark contrast to last season's successes.

I seem to remember something like this happening before.

Isn't there some daft rule (invented by the FA no doubt) that when you pick yourself as a player you adhere to player's rules, suspensions etc even though you are still the manager?

Two more games and he'll be wearing a suit in the stands, anyway.

Has to be the reason he was on the field on Saturday. No way is he ahead of Parker in the pecking order or a few others for that matter. Thought he was going to hang up his boots last season.

I've heard a slightly different set of figures and perhaps some one who knows more than me can confirm, deny or just comment ......

Cookie was sacked after 13 games last season. We had 18 points and were in the bottom half of the league.

After 13 games this season we sit one from bottom with 9 points.

Obviously 13 is not unlucky for everyone .........

Apart from that its good to see former manager Gary Roberts doing well. Good result at Thurrock on Saturday with the winning goal coming from Robbie Simpson, a 19 year old local boy, to St Albans that is ............another one that got away

Whichever way you look at it ...........it aint good

...and another thing...........

It has come to my attention that there have been comments made within the club that I am one of a few "negative" people........we are obviously to blame for all the current woes.

Lets get one thing staight. I have been involved with the club for the past 5 years. It was me who convinced the then Chairman and Manager of the benefits of developing an active youth policy for the main club. Fits well with the work in the community ....

City Youth had been running for some time but as a completelly seperate entity and we all felt that was a great waste of local talent, so we started the Midweek Youth team on the basis that all outside costs would be funded from the Youth section and the senior club would provide the facilities. The plan was for boys aged 16 - 18 to play at this level for 2 years before progressing to a then unformed reserve team. This would allow them to play a decent level of adult football for the next 2/3 years and hopefully produce the odd gem by the time they reached 19/20 ... think of those now moved on !!

I was then involved 2 years ago in the setting up of the this Saturday reserve tean and took an active part in its running and raised over £4000 to run the side, brought in a team sponsor etc. to ensure that the first team budget was not affected in any way.

On top of this I have been actively involved in various fund raising activities for the club and sat on a committee which made recomendations as to how the club could progress financially, a report that has been totally ignored.

So with this in mind and bearing in mind what has happened over the last 6 months can any one please come back to me on this and convince me that those efforts have been worth it. If you would like to talk this over I will be at The Park on Saturday.

I am not a negative person ......just pi**ed off and

Thats it rant over ...........
