Hall, Campbell, Baldwin, Gant, Snowden, Negus, Wright, Hall, Smith, Ridout, Nyman, Riley, Pamplin, Davis, Gerachty, Masala

Gate 328

Goal: Baldwin 26, Smith 45(og) & 60

In torrential rain ETFC beat Diss Town in a very enjoyable match.

It was end to end stuff and early shots from Matty Negus driven low looked encouraging for town.

Nyman ran well and crossed to Smith who placed a ball just over the bar. On 26 minutes Steve Baldwin in the box drove the ball low and hard into the goal past the keeper. Was that Baldricks maiden goal certainly priceless? Diss immediately broke back and how they failed to score I just cannot understand but we needed a bit of luck as well.

On 45 A corner cross can in and Lee Smith beat his own keeper. A lovely goal but at the wrong oops 1 - 1 at half -time.

Second half 55 minutes Dean Nyman had a one on one with the keeper but alas missed. On 56 Johnny Ridout had a shot blocked for a corner. Then we had a Lee Smith Volley go just wide. On 59 minutes Adam Gant was last man and brought down his man straight red. Town down to 10 men went straight back up the Diss town end and Lee Smith made amends for the earlier mistake by scoring 2 - 1 to Town. The weather was getting worse the lights were on and players were sliding on their backsides. Dean Nyman slid 20 feet on surface water. Soon followed by Chopper doing the same to make a save. Kevin Riley came on for Johnny Ridout and looked the cleanest shirt by miles, but did extremely well in holding-up the play and play making. On Full time Asa Pamplin came on for Dean Nyman.

And the town go marching on!

Man of match for me Steve Baldwin.

I think the Mayor of Enfield enjoyed his day at the town.

Thank goodness for Enfield Town - our saviour yet again on a totally woeful day at the Office. Sawbridgeworth live to fight a replay on Tuesday after a bizarre "no extra-time" game at Tiptree United and Eton Manor play tomorrow , Concord come in next time around and the rest ..... ?

If I Could have got Dean Nymans attention I could have leant him my string from my trousers to hold his shorts up. First he ripped a pair and then he borrowed Johnny Ridouts pair after he was subbed but they looked like they had just come off Fruitbat on him!

Squadron Leader have you any child sized shirts and short especially to lend to Dean Nyman?

Actually I looked at my watch when he kicked off for the second half and he only played 5 minutes injury time in the second half. I dont know how much in the first half as I arrived late.

They kicked off at 16:10 and full time was blown at 17:00. I actually think that five minutes injury time for the second half was about right. I do know that people were whistling for the full time with about 10 minutes to go for normal time! It seems to me that people didn't realise how late kick off was in the second half. Enfield came out late remember-Diss were on the pitch a good three minutes before Town appeared and then the bench did not get settled till late on.

Yes,the Diss players did come out early for the second half. The Enfield Town players came out with the ref.

Regarding time added.: 6 minutes in the first half does seem exessive.I'm sure the use of electronic scoreboards in league football does mean that they play far less time-added than we do in non-league games.Would our ref yesterday have put 6 minutes up on the first half scoreboard.?...i don't think so.

The problem with the ref yesterday, was that he was stopping his watch everytime the ball went out of play.according to resent sky sports stats, the ball is only in the field of play for between 25-35 minutes a half.So by constantly stopping his watch he was causing himself problems. He was even worse in the second half with his watch stopping, and i believe it was only the fact that the supporters were constantly berating him about it that forced him to blow up the second half after about 7 minutes.I'm sure his 'stop/start watch' still had about 10 minutes to go,on it.

Did you notice also, that when ETFC were in the lead ,the ref constantly motioned with our players to get on with the game every time the ball went out.( the funniest being when Negus went to take a throw on in the first half.He ran to the ball ,which was next to the fence, then quickly proceeded to throw it it.BUT STILL the ref motioned at him to get on with it. Constrast this to when the game was level and the Diss keeper was taking an age to take his goal kicks.Funnily enough that was also about the time when the ref stopped his annoying habit of fiddling with his watch.

Regarding the sending off of Gant. I thought it was harsh.( Adam himself was in a long discussion with the ref after the game about it.) Gant lost possesion of the ball and did foul the forward who dispossessed him.My reservation is that the incident happened near ther half-way line. I don't believe the Diss player (on the muddy waterlogged surface) had any chance of running with the ball towards goal, without the other covering Enfield Town players closing him down. As such it was NOT a goal scoring oppotunity.A few weeks ago in the Man City/Chelsea game, a yellow card was shown when Anelka was fouled...Ahh..The inconsistancy.

I'm surprised no-one has commented further on Adam's sending-off, as I thought it was one of the worst decisions not involving Andy D'Urso that I have seen! I don't usually comment on referees - indeed my private opinions on them is usually higher than those expressed on this forum, but this one was ludicrous! Adam and the Diss forward were heading for the visting bench when the foul took place, so what was the red card for? Clear denial of a throw-in opportunity? And by the way, the Diss management team are of the same opinion!

We have all just got to say thanks to the 328 who braved the wind and rain yesterday to watch the game. People responded to our request to park on the Downs and we got everyone in and everyone out.

Interesting to note that by placing four cones near the main stand has assisted us tremendously with people not standing in the yellow hatched area. People can now sit down and watch without having others standing in front of them.

A big thank you has got to go to Roy, Frank and all those who have worked on the pitch because I believe that had this game been played last year in this weather, then we would all have had to have gone home without seeing a ball being kicked.

Here's to the next round.

I see no one has commented on one of our throw ins yesterday when I believe Matty took a quick throw against the back of a Diss player.

Intersting! Very Interesting!

The FA Vase final is at White Hart Lane this year.

What's the odds of a Enfield Town V Enfield fc final. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon29.gif" alt="" />

If that were to happen.Could the Enfield v Barnsley (at White Hart lane) attendance record be beaten.

As a matter of interest what was the year and what was the attendence of the Barnsley game.

I have it in my mind as 1981 and over 32,000
