I repeat my comments from a different thread ......

"How can the club afford to keep doing this ?

Pre season friendly gates were way below expectations, regular home cowds are only around 50% of those budgeted, so can someone please explain why the club lets all the younger players (who are obviously cheaper) leave and constantly "brings someone in" who will be a mate of a mate type of thing and cost the club a considerable sum of money. The only home grown talent left is Chris Seeby who must be well chuffed at the imminent return of Dean Hooper, Scott Cousins and Ben Martin. Should leave him about 8th in line for a defensive starting place.

££££££££££££££££ "

For Chris Seeby now read David "Bullet" Parkinson ....

.......I give up

Lets hope you're right ..... from the Stortford web site re the signing of Steve Morrison on a 3 year contract yesterday ( HKS rates this boy very highly and if things had been different ....... )

"Steve will not be available for tomorrow's league game at Sutton, but should make his debut as a contract player for the Blues next week (Tuesday 26th October) at the away league fixture with Redbridge."

Could be due to time of signing, contract with Northampton etc.etc. so fingers crossed ........ still it goes to show that we are not the only club with this sort of policy. Scott Atkinson from last years reserves is at Stortford. Plays in the Capital League team, has had little chance to impress (due to the lack of games and the very nature of that league) and will no doubt be considering his future as this is being written.

Another point that I find slightly concerning is that whilst I am sure this club knows what it is doing, to sign a player on a 2 year contract suggests that all smells of roses in the garden and clearly demonstrates that there will be no changes in the personnel at the top of the club, or in how the club operates for that period of time. Blind faith or absolute confidence

I am begining to think it must just be me ...

It is certainly a bold move, let's hope it pays off.

Here is the story from the Cam U site:

Beech Moves On

Youth Team striker Tom Beech has accepted an offer to join Conference South side St Albans City.

Stevenage-born Beech scored a prolific number of goals in the youth team and he hit the headlines when he netted six goals in last season's FA Youth Cup campaign.

He spent the start of this season on week experience at St Albans, but an injury crisis at the Abbey meant that he was recalled and drafted into the first team squad.

Beech made his debut when coming off the bench to replace Danny Webb 20 minutes from time at Southend on August 21st, and he went on to make further substitute appearances at Boston, Chester and at home to Bristol Rovers.

Dale Brooks commented, "St Albans offered him a two-year deal on good money, and when you bear in mind that we've already got Jermaine Easter, John Turner, Dan Chillingworth, Danny Webb and now Amadou Konte at the Club it was felt that Tom Beech's chances of first team football were limited.

"Once the offer was made, it was felt that it would be in the best interests of both the Club and the boy himself and that it was a good time for him to move on.

"Everyone at the Club would like to wish him every success in the future."

There is a clause in the deal which protects the interests of Cambridge United FC should Beech progress further in his career.

And his profile...

Name: Tom Beech

Nationality: English

Date of Birth: 02/12/1985

Height: 6' 4" (193cm)

Weight: 15st 0lbs (95.34kg)

Previous Clubs:St Albans City

Position:Striker

A towering third year trainee who can play on the left wing or up front, 'Beechy' has a lightning burst of pace. He was in prolific form for the youth teams last season and scored on his Reserve team debut following several impressive U19 games.

Always a threat and never giving the opposition defence a moment's peace, he was rewarded with a first team squad number at the beginning of January 2004.

4 first team appearances as sub.

Thomas "Beechy" Beech, I like that, he should fit in well here.

I ask again ........how the f**k .......

To use a well known phrase ....

As I queued in Wickes to buy my weekly quota of plaster sealant .........

my attention was drawn to a shop assistant who was fair flying around the store ensuring shelves were well stacked.

On closer inspection I realised it was "Bullet". I ventured to speak and enquired as to how he was working on a Saturday and not playing football. He said " I'm not needed this week" so I replied "Probably cos they've just signed a new 18 year old centre forward with great potential on a 2 year contract"

"F**k me" he cried "I thought that was me .....well the potential bit not the contact"

With that he turns away and was last seen heading towards the shop manager to volunteer for more Saturday work.

On good authority ... strange team selection for todays game ... even stranger rumors for the reasons .... 2-0 down at HT

I wouldn't want to offer a view based on one appearance in the rain at the seaside, but he'll certainly be a big boy when he grows up. 6ft 4ins and 15 stone at 18. He worked hard on Saturday for no reward.

Now you know that I don't know anything about football but [in the] first half we played with Cousins and Hooper as wing-backs with Tom 'Beechy' Beech up front supported by Ben Walshe just behind.

[For the] Second half, the manager replaced Thomas with De Souza who played up front with 'Beechy' supported by Walshe just behind in a 4-3-1-2, sometimes 4-4-2 and sometimes 4-3-3 [kinda] formation.

Couldn't fault t'lads effort and work-rate on Saturday.

The bench was Parker, who came on for Castle, Abbey, Adam Smith and Jackman. In the ground was Southon, Hann, Riley, Afolayan and the suspended Wraight & Clarke.

A match report will be on the site later today.

[i'm getting really sick of losing.]

Steve Morrison is quality. I spent 2 years with him at Potters Bar and he was one of those players who could be awful for 87 minutes, but get you 3 goals.

He actually played in the JK era, I think it was 3 appearances, 1 goal. Not bad for a 16 year old. He was on loan at Stortford and his record was equally impressive, something like 5 in 9. I'm not saying that he'd ever have come to the Saints, not without me anyway, but he's just what we could do with.

Oh, and he looks incredibly lazy while he's doing it as well.
