The passion that was lacking Saturday was there tonight and an all together better performance from the town.

From the word go Town went on the offensive and did not let up for much of the first half. Dean Nyman in his new position was electric making darting runs and giving all sorts of problems. On 10 minute Dean Nyman made an inspired run to the by-line and made a lovely cross to Smith who thundered a rocket shot against the bar. Matty Negus had an shot. And Dean Nyman kept shooting but just wide. It felt like we needed a long thrower but we didn’t have one until the 40th minute when Stuart Snowden subbed for Graeme Hall. Dean Nyman continued to be just off target with shot after shot and was very relaxed in his new role. Great runs from Lee Smith and Peter Davis (new young striker). Russell Penn proved an encouraging new addition from the old EFC days.

Second half Brentwood came on the offensive determined not to let us have it all our own way. Town went on the attack and we had a Rudi Voller (Sorry Volley – Couldn’t resist the joke) just going wide. On about 55 minutes we had Brentwood’s best chance with the ball bobbing around like a pinball and looking certain for an own-goal, how chopper did the business we just don’t know. Well done chops. Lee smith then went on a run and but for a cruel bounce would have had a one on one with the keeper. On 59 minutes a ball went across to the centre of the edge of the box for Matty Negus who drove the ball along the ground and into the net 1 – 0. Asa Pamplin came on for Peter Davis and immediately started to give the defence problems. Johnny Ridout came on for Dean Nyman. Rudi Hall continued to pepper the goal with shots deflected wide for a corner. Matty Negus took a corner and curled the ball into the net but Asa Pamplin was ajudged to have fouled the keeper, who thought Town had scored a good goal. So did we.

3 valuable points.

I felt that we came out gins a blazing. Jim certainly stuck rockets up the lads' backsides after Saturday. However, towards the end of the first half and in the second we seemed to slow down. We must play the full 90 mins if we are to beat better sides in the ESL this season. Thought Penn looked good and a great goal from Matt.

re: The Penalty incident.

I had a great view of it and it was probably a foul but definitely outside the box.

I also thought the ball may have crossed the line before it was cleared in the second half.

These are the sort of incidents that get evened out over the course of the season.

It wasn't a great performance but three welcome points.

Another home clean sheet thats no goals against in the league at home any way , a good game played at a high tempo dominated by the town but only a single goal to show for it somebody is going to get a good hiding sooner or later well done boys.
