An anniversary today [I think]??

Steve Castle was appointed manager 12 months ago today.

 

Having checked a programme, and on the assumption that the centre spread is accurate, we lost a close game at Grays on Tuesday, October 21st 2003, the managers first match at the helm.

Thursday: John Gib$on is quoted in the papers, following Steve Cook's sacking, saying that he won't rush into a new managerial appointment.

 

Saturday: Caretake manager Steve Castle manages a point at home against high-flying Braintree Town in a pulsating 0-0 draw.

 

Sunday: John Gib$on offers Steve Castle the manager's job on a permanent basis.

 

Tuesday: We are narrowly beaten 1-9 by Grays in Castle's first match in charge.

 

 

Footnote: The point we earned in the pulsating 0-0 home draw against high-flying Braintree Town actually gives Steve Castle a better points-per-game average as Caretaker Manager than his overall average as Permanent Manager.

The goal-difference per game ratio was not quite as good though at an average of minus four over those two games. It'll take some hefty beatings to repeat that level although we still have to play some of the better sides.

Yeah, I know, we were stuck in the bottom four all season. It looks good though, high flying.

 

Remember the day well, we had about 15 lads standing behind the goal, with our flags when two of your lads walk pass, eye us up and down, walk pass, get their refreshments, walk back pass again eyeing us up and starring. Stuck in the memory.
