err...let's not get carried away. Sure we have a good chance of getting to the first round (Southend away again ?!) but Hallen will really be up for it as it is a huge opportunity for them. Let's get behind the team on the day and hopefully the boys can do the business.

Agree - I'm not tempting fate. They'll be up for it.

SHOULD do the business without a replay, although it only takes one dodgy ref and two soppy linesmen who haven't read the script to bugger up the plan.......

Couldn't ask for a better draw - and at home - no 200 mile journey to Bristol!

Wot a shame either Hornchurch or Gravesend have to go out

Taken from the Bristol Evening Post:

CANVEY TRIP FOR HALLEN'S CUP HEROES

More Sport | Back to home page

13:41 - 18 October 2004

Gary Domone and his Hallen players are looking forward to a "big day out" after being drawn away to Canvey Island in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup. "We wanted to play Conference opposition and that's what we've got," beamed Hallen boss Domone.

The Screwfix League minnows will head to Essex on Saturday week and Domone declared: "This will be the biggest game any of my players will ever have played in. No-one gives us a prayer, but we'll give it our best shot and just enjoy the whole day."

Hallen, who have beaten Team Bath and Bishop's Cleeve in previous rounds, have already earned in excess of £12,000 from the competition and will double that if they cause a major upset and make the first round proper.

Yep - does have flashbacks of years gone by.

At least their manager sounds pleased - can't understand why??!!

He obviously got the draw of a Conference side, but didn't have a chance to look into it.......

Wait till he sees the very "original" ground that we have and when that wind starts blowing over the seawall, I'll bet he'll be thinking "stuff this - I wanted Conference, but Carlisle or Exeter"

In some ways we will always be the underdogs

There is no such thing as an easy game in the FA Cup (or the Trophy, come to that!). Port Vale thought they had an easy one when they played The Pub Team From Essex. Hansen thought Northampton had an easy one when they brought the MOTD cameras to Park Lane. Wigan thought much the same at the JJB stadium. On the other hand, many of us thought that Lowestoft would be easy, Burgess Hill would be a stroll in the park and Slough would be easy pickings.

Worst thing in the world for us would be to assume this one is in the bag. Hallen (formerly Lawrence Weston Athletic - my old club) will be up for it. They have nothing to lose.

We can be confident, but let's be very careful never to be arrogant.
